*Training Contract applications

I'm actually ineligible for S&C VS. I'll be applying for their TC. 13 firm's rejections overall now.

Applications left to do: Fried Frank; McDermott, Will & Emery; Paul Hastings.
why these firms? You seem to have missed off a lot of good firms that would probably given you a higher chance of success, also by applying to this many firms does it affect your applications? Apologies, this is my first cycle in about 7-10 years (career changer) so I am unclear of the protocol.

Is there a specific area of law you wish to qualify in?

Generally prefer the US firms. Learning by doing. Early responsibility etc. Have had more success with them. Not sure about your second question. I got three ACs last cycle. Not sure how typical that is. I'm also a career changer. What are you doing currently? I don't know about qualification yet. I enjoyed doing tax.

Can you be a career changer if you’ve been chasing a career but doing another whilst chasing. Surely you left university and since then have been applying to law ever since I’m not sure that’s a career changer. But nonetheless I’m sure the experience you’ve gained working alongside applying has been ever so useful for transferable skills.

I don’t think it matters about your status as a career changer- you should be extremely proud of the hard work you have put in whilst exploring another pathway!

For anybody who has applied to Addleshaw, please do reply letting me know how you have navigated the education section of the application form. Are people pressing 'Add New Qualification' and adding each module grade or just making one entry for their whole degree result. Feel free to PM as well. Thank youuuu

What are you on about. No one said Tintin shouldn’t be proud. If anything I said their skills would be transferable. Stop making others out to be the bad person. Comprehension is key.
I don’t think your initial comment was necessary… comes across as being patronising. If @Tintin06 says they are a career changer then so be it - no need to question them about it and say nevertheless I’m sure you’ve gained experience?? It’s not everything you must comment on sometimes tap into your emotional intelligence and keep quiet or know how to phrase things to come across less patronising.

No thanks I say it how I see it. No point sugar coating your journey when it is public. You cannot be a career changer if you didn’t change from a career. It’s not rude to point out the truth.

We have warned you privately about your tone in previous posts and I have edited a number of those previous posts to remove tone that is clearly unnecessarily rude in response to others.

Your response to Tintin is another example of that behaviour.

You talk about people needing to have comprehension but there is also a need to have emotional intelligence and the ability to understand how your posts will be perceived by others.

Please consider this going forward. There will not be any further informal warnings about this.

how is @Tintin06 sugar coating his journey when he is being transparent about everything? what your saying is highly irrelevant. Have you personally followed @Tintin06 through his career journey to know that he isn’t a career changer? Lol. If your this TC guru why are you still searching for a TC and not secured one yet. Stop judging @Tintin06 strategy and let people be.

Heya everyone,

Just a quick reminder to keep our discussions thoughtful and supportive. The forum’s rules are in place to ensure this remains a welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable seeking information or without worrying about being judged or dismissed. There are many people here from all sorts of backgrounds including non-law students, career changers, first year students, foreign applicants and so forth. Please consider your tone and manner of expression, as well as what you say to each other.

Finally, I'd encourage everyone to avoid making authoritative claims about other people's application strategies unless they’re supported by solid evidence or reasoning. Given the nature of the forum, we don't know very much about one another's backgrounds and whether our advice actually makes sense in their situation. Keeping this in mind is important so that we don't end up offering advice that's unhelpful.

Thank you for keeping this space constructive 😊
