Hi all, currently completing Goodwin's application and I am a bit stuck on this question: Which other firms are you applying to and why?

@Jessica Booker @Ram Sabaratnam (or anyone else) what is the firm looking for in this question? Should we mention how many we are doing or specific firms by name?

My application strategy is quite narrowed, and I'm essentially only applying to firms that fit into three criterias - one of them being a technology specialism, as I am currently working in a tech firm. I've mentioned this already in my 'why goodwin', so I'm worried I'm going be repeating myself in this question. Thanks in advance!
They are looking for what factors you consider to be important when applying to firms and how they then fit into this. You don’t have to include details of the numbers of applications, and you don’t have to name individual firms (although I personally find it more persuasive and impactful when people do), but you can just categorise the three criteria you have set and explain that the firms you have applied to fit into firms that meet all three criteria.

I assume the shoe fits. However, I did not mean this as an egotistical statement. Something that is common in my university and many of us have voiced.

Jokes aside. Honestly if you see that way, then fairs. But I implore you to be considerate of different perspectives and experiences before making such a declarative.

More importantly, recognise there is no benefit to pontificating about which degree is “easier” or “useful”. We are all on the same boat trying to get to the same point.
Our differences aren’t making it harder or easier for anyone else getting to the destination we all want.

Didn’t say they were easier degrees or not useful. My point was regarding the over-saturation of these degrees within my law society. They take the opportunities for themselves. Then coast the rest of their degree with a wealth of experience as I rough it in law struggling to differentiate myself from every other law student.

For the Ashurst VS application, there is a question that asks "Can you provide an example of a recent setback you have had and how you overcame this?" Does anyone have any advice on how recent it has to be? For example, I have granted university already but could I talk about not getting into my first choice university as a setback even though it was four years ago? If that is not recent enough, what would you say is recent (i.e., 1 year, 2 years etc)?

Hi guys, so far I have applied to pretty much all firms with winter vacation schemes and been rejected by Cleary, NRF and Ashurst so far. I am still waiting on so many, including W&C, HSF, HL, Sidley Austin and Dechert (post written exercise). I have seen so many people on here get VI's, AC's, and even offers with a lot of these firms. At the same time I am also seeing a lot of PFOs. Does this perhaps mean I'm sitting in the maybe pile of these law firms which is delaying their response?

Maybe your superiority complex comes across in your applications and that's why you are being rejected? Just a thought.

SPB Open Day PFO..

I did my research on the firm, applied my own experiences to the same, outlined how I would benefit from the Open Day, and applied a week before the deadline, yet I get a kick in the teeth..

What would the main reasons for a rejection from Open Day be?
Sheer volume of applications and not enough spaces for people who meet all the criteria and have done the same.
