Did the SVS last year, my cover letter was just under 700 words and for the two other questions, I wrote about 250 words. I got rejected from them previously with an arguably more 'tailored' CL that was 950 words long. Being concise is incredibly important, and it is not pertinent to reach the...
Not Jessica or Andrei, but I did the Travers VS last year and mentioned two MC firms I attended open days with in my application, so in general, I think name dropping other firms is ok for Travers.
If you're worried, you could say 'After attending a debt finance workshop, I found... interesting...
Bakers don’t respond to anyone until after the deadline date (from someone that has a TC there and applied 5h before the deadline for spring last year).
Pretty sure it’s 23:59pm - they’re “rolling”, but no decisions are sent until after deadline. I got the spring VS last year and applied 6h before the deadline.
I had a VS there last year, I would encourage you to speak about a non-law topic. For instance, I spoke about a famous scientist that impacted my life. Most of my cohort discussed topics unrelated to commercial law and I think grad rec quite likes finding out more about you as an individual, as...
Hi all,
Due to start a six-week intro to law and SQE prep course with BARBRI in January 2025. My understanding is there is a lot of content to get through and lots of people I know that have gone through it say that early preparation is required. What can I do to start preparing before my...
Second what Jessica said - I went to their event last year and my application focused on what I wanted to learn rather than how I was socially mobile. I tried to be specific about a couple of their practices and diversity initiatives and what information I wanted to get out of the day. Could...
@Jessica Booker My firm gives me a 6 week course, but I still question whether the time given will be sufficient to cover everything I need to know for the SQE. I would feel more assured if I did the GDL, but I could be wrong.
Its more whether I will miss out on legal content by not doing the...
Hi all,
I'm a future trainee solicitor at a US firm due to start my training contract in March 2026. My firm doesn't require me to sit the GDL exams and I start my SQE course in February 2025. However, I am slightly worried going into the SQE without completing the GDL for a multitude of...
Slaughters explicitly ask you not to state skills as they are able to infer it from your job descriptions. So I would just put “Carried out X, achieved Y results” or something, and do two-three bullet points for each work experience.
Hi, I have an interview with Rare Recruitment for their Candidate Coordinator role. Has anyone interviewed in the past and is willing to provide some insights? :)
Thanks!
@Jessica Booker or anyone that’s done the SQE (particularly at BARBRI, but more generally is fine), I’m having a bit of a conundrum. I might be starting my SQE prep course in early July for an Sep 2025 start and I technically graduate from my degree in June. However, I am worried that I may need...
