Just submitted my final piece of work for uni. I have a vac scheme next week so I'm looking forward to just doing nothing for a few days and mentally resetting!
It sounds like you are doing way too much! You really don't need to run yourself down to be able to show firms that you're a worthy candidate. Heck, chances are that it will end up being your undoing, if you're going into interviews feeling exhausted.
Make sure you take time to rest and look...
It might be worth just letting grad rec know about your circumstances, even if you do choose to persevere. I had a bit of a personal crisis myself earlier in the year - I chose to soldier on with five AC's and not say anything. I ended up being successful with the majority of the assessment...
To contrast, I focused all of my 'interesting business story' interview answers on topics which were directly relevant to the firm (albeit not necessarily something the firm is primarily known for) and it was something that I received good feedback for. I do agree that the important thing is...
It sounds like you've misunderstood what has actually been said here, on my part anyway. I don't think anybody here has intended to frame this discussion as wealthy POC v white working class people. Although it seems like that is how yourself and Karinny have interpreted it. I apologise if I...
Yeah, it isn't (or shouldn't be) a competition. Although in fairness, I think that was also the poster's point. Their comment re white working class males wasn't an opinion - they were repeating what has been reported in several studies over the past couple of years.
Speaking for myself, I...
I believe that the poster's wider point was that we have a class problem which is often not addressed in the legal sector (or more generally). If a diversity initiative only, or predominately, targets individuals from wealthy or privileged backgrounds, I don't think it's ludicrous to question...
They call it an insight scheme rather than a vac scheme because it's only one day, with an interview afterwards. They used to have a proper vac scheme but changed it last year to this format. Which is probably why some of their material still refers to a vac scheme.
I think hindsight can paint a misleading picture sometimes. Back in the 90s and 00s, financial products like CDS and MBS were hailed as innovative solutions to various other problems at that time by academics and politicians. So I don't necessarily think it's fair to presume that individuals en...
It is an interesting discussion. My view is that professionals are generally capable of compartmentalising their personal values and performing their job in a spirit of bipartisanship. My partner and I both subscribe to progressive politics, and yet he works in commodities trading and I'm...
I do find the idea that the ESL could be a potential ethical red line for a magic circle law quite amusing, I have to say! But then I have zero interest in football. 😅
Honestly, I wouldn't look at it that way. It isn't healthy to compare journeys like that. The recruiters have seen enough potential in you for you to get to this stage. You have as good a chance at converting as anybody else. And if you don't make it then at least you have a little more...
The insight scheme is only one day. Then you're invited to a final partner interview shortly afterwards (I think it's usually one of the next two days following the scheme).
