anyone else just received this email from Latham for spring VS application?

Thank you for your application to the vacation scheme at Latham & Watkins.

Due to the volume of applications we received we are still working through reviewing these. We are therefore hoping to provide you with a further update on the status of your application within the end of February.

Thank you in advance for your continued patience.

Should I keep my hopes up or just give up on Latham?
Received the same for Spring VS. I agree I am not sure what the take should be on that email. But honestly, without sounding too pessimistic, I believe mid feb is too late to be considered for a Spring VS surely if it will take them that long? It would make more sense if it was for a summer application (unless they are willing to consider Spring applicants for the summer VS) and since some people seem to have progressed to ACs I’m not too hopeful tbh. But of course I might be completely wrong. Moreover, I can’t see from this forum that a lot of people have been formally rejected, it just seems to be radio silence from their end.

anyone heard from Linklaters for Summer VS?
Since this question has been circulating a lot and it doesn't seem like anyone else has provided a clear picture, I'll elaborate based on what I know.

People in Pathfinders or the Fast-track heard back about ACs around the end of December. We could book AC slots for January and I believe there are still a few ACs scheduled this week. Based on the people that I met from my AC and others that I've talked to, there doesn't seem to be a distinction between Spring and Summer applicants.

I don't think I met anyone at AC who didn't go through some fast-track route so my assumption is that those who applied through the standard route should expect to hear back soon-ish for invitations to ACs in February?

Morning all!
Ropes and Gray. Advice given was variable and nobody seemed to have consensus so I took the opportunity to ask Ropes directly for their input. Maya very kindly came back to me a minute ago with very detailed clarification around what they want. Ultimately, tie back to your own experience IF word count permits without compromising your answer. Hope this helps 🙏

Has everyone who applied to L&W Summer - who did not get a response, get this email now?
I applied to summer and didn’t get this but haven’t heard anything else either?

This simply is not true. You are not restricted to paralegal roles.

Once you qualify as a solicitor, you will immediately become ineglible for TC and VS. Then your job options will be restricted to paralegal roles.

As an international student, the firms automatically consider you probably have little to zero knowledge of English law (undergrad level). Further, the odds are lower if you have no significant PQE practising law overseas (particularly in civil law countries).

The firms' job advertisements say they look for someone "trained in the UK". Unfortunately, except if you are a paralegal at an elite firm offering NQ roles for trainees, you would be at a disadvantage when competing against trainees from other firms in any lateral recruitment for the reasons mentioned by Jessica.

For example, my LLM colleagues struggled to find associate jobs after passing the SQE. They have been working as paralegals or locum solicitors for the past 2 years.

I know just two graduates qualified as solicitors via SQE with +10 PQE who received offers to work as associates (corporate at a US elite firm and financial services at a global firm).

Check this post where someone shared the hurdle after qualifying via SQE without a TC: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy....lkie-farr-gallagher-anything.4439/post-190218

Agreed, this isn't true at all. I work in a firm with New Zealand, Australian qualified lawyers. I could potentially work in Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia if I wanted to
