do spots not fill up though? especially in london
I think the only advantage of applying early is if you're looking to secure scholarships. But even those I think don't have deadlines until June or so (don't quote me on that).

But otherwise, I think the two biggest schools like BPP and ULaw struggle to fill all their spots.

@Jessica Booker, I accepted a role with a consulting firm on Tuesday, which is a step up from what I am currently doing. In my current role, I could technically do vacation schemes as most of my work was conducted from the US, and I don't think anyone would necessarily find out. However, I am aware that this next firm will be a lot more stringent and probably have work cross-over with a lot of the firms I am looking at. The problem is, whilst a lot of my applications this cycle are for direct training contracts and are still in the running, I have about six that are for summer vacation schemes for which I am at different stages (one waiting back to here from post-AC).

I had applied to vacation schemes with these select firms as for all but one, it is the only way to secure a TC with them; however, for the last one, they do have a direct TC route. What would you say would be the best course of action to take?

I almost feel like it's a bit cheeky to ask if there is a direct TC route with the five that do not have one, and I suspect the answer will be no before I have even asked. Even with the sixth, I know that they have different criteria and often deem it unfair on other candidates to switch someone from the VS to TC application partway through the process.

I would just wait to hear back from the firms and at the point you are either invited to the next stage or offered a role, speak to them about transferring to a direct TC process then, explaining you have taken on a new job which will mean you cannot now complete a VS with them.

There is no harm in asking the firms even that recruit exclusively from VS whether they can make an exception. The worse they will say is no which is no different a position than you would be if you had to decline the offer/withdraw your candidacy.

If they do have different standards for a direct TC process, you are likely to be assessed again.
