Hello, does anyone know of any firms that accept direct TC applications (that are still open) when you haven’t done a vacation scheme? I’ve done other law related pro bono work etc but this is my first round applying for TC’s. TIA

This is what I thought. But a recent AC I did, only one other person wore a tie - and they looked great. Everyone else was button down. All of my previous ACs I’ve always been the one guy wearing a tie😭I’m scared of being that guy
Much better to be the only person wearing a tie than the only one rocking button down lol.

Hello guys, I have a question please 🙋🏽‍♀️
I managed to get an associate agree to jump on a call with me some time before my assessment centre and I’m just thinking how I can make the most of the call which is going to be about 30mins max. I did not think they will agree to a call to be honest cause I know these commercial lawyers are very busy! But now that they have , I’m really careful of not making them feel like I wasted their time by asking them something I could have just googled! I also don’t want to ask anything too specific about the assessment centre. Suggestions on what to ask them will be very appreciated!
Ps:it’s a virtual meeting over teams!
Many thanks ☺️

Got the same thing!
I did email them regarding an update about a week and a half ago and haven't heard back so they might still be considering applications 🤞

I also ended up emailing them about an update but have not heard back either. Will keep you both informed if I hear anything!!

Mixed bag for my WBD score: high for both verbal and numerical, but 3 and 4 for grit and applied intellect :( 7 and 9 for the other two. No idea if that’s anywhere close to getting an AC but we’ll all find out together soon I guess
completely different firm, but I got the exact same scores for Baker McKenzie and got progressed to the next stage, so don't lose hope!

for WBD i got 20/36 and high for both applied and numerical intellect, can't tell if thats good or not
I’m not sure what WBD benchmark is, but for Paul, Weiss, the vast majority of us who got invited to interview scored between 20-24 on the SJT pillars and mid/high on both verbal and numerical intellect. I think your scores are solid tbh! Best of luck for WBD! 🙂

The way I get around it is by doing more, usually. If I get a rejection then I try to send off another app the same week so I know I have another one out there, and that normally makes me feel better.

I found it harder this cycle than the last two. After a rejection from a firm I did an AC with last cycle, I just couldn't get out of bed for a day I was that down. I've said it before on here, but the way I pick myself back up is by thinking of life as a wheel of fortune - sometimes you're at the bottom, sometimes you're at the top, but the wheel NEVER stops spinning. At one point, logically, you HAVE to be on top.

Also, cut yourself some slack. It takes a lot of energy to do all these applications. Celebrate the small successes (eg just getting an application out there) and have a dance around the kitchen or something. Sounds silly, but the little things really help :)
Love your analogy of the wheel
