W&C PFO post app. I’m heartbroken.

In the email, they outlined a brief selection criteria against which my application was rejected, but I’m genuinely confused as I ensured that my cover letter was crafted based on those criteria😔

“As a minimum, successful applicants must have an excellent academic record.” - I graduated with a high 2:1 (68) from a RG uni and Distinction for my LLM. 😔

“A demonstrated commercial and legal interest and awareness, a good eye for detail and accuracy, and an ability to write clearly and succinctly.” - I had two professional experiences in the two relevant sectors W&C specialises in. Additionally, my cover letter was succinct, well-structured, and most importantly, tailored to me. I was actually so proud of this cover letter. 😞and my mentor loved it too..

“We are also looking for people who are self-motivated, successful team members with leadership qualities.” - I held two leadership positions at uni, and of course, these were included in the application.😔

On top of this, some applicants are able to offer other skills, knowledge, or experience over and above that offered by other candidates, which are particularly relevant to our business e.g., previous relevant work experience or language skills.” - I speak two languages fluently and one at an intermediate level, so I truly don’t know what went wrong.

This is very heartbreaking because I poured my heart into this application, and based on this information, I can’t even seem to understand why I was rejected. I conveyed my genuine interest in the firm and a commercial career through my tailored cover letter and relevant professional experiences.

I feel incredibly disappointed and confused. I invested so much time and effort into this application, believing that I was a strong candidate. Actually, it was ironic bc I spent the last hours prepping for their VI thinking that I would receive their invitation soon and then 💥 my hopes were shattered with just one email.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Their application was so long too they had so many questions, it sucks when you put so much time into an application for them to hit you back with generic feedback that doesn't apply to you. It seems like you are a great candidate I hope you get an offer from a firm that you want to work at soon.

I’m really sorry to hear this! 😕

Just know that rejection is redirection and that the right firm for you will see all your achievements and potential and offer you that well deserved TC!! 🙂

Best of luck with the remainder of this application cycle! Don’t give up on yourself! 🙂

Don't feel too disheartened! W&C recieve over 4k applications each cycle, there's plenty of people in the exact same position who are adequately qualified but for whatever reason overlooked! Don't forget that there isn't a formula for success in these things, they're never for granted. In fact, a lot of these things come down to getting axed by an AI bot that flagged a gramatical error and due to the volume of applicants your application never actually gets read by recruitment. Especially at W&C, rolling applications add a level of uncertainty because you don't know the quality of the other 3,999 applicants. Luckily, a post app pfo means you can likely apply again with a more refined and possibly improved application. Keep your head up, rejection is sometimes redirection, W&C aren't the only firm out there doing what they do!

This wouldn't need to be a reasonable adjustment - you'd be welcome to take in anything into the presentation to help you present unless the firm has said otherwise in the instructions.

However, I wouldn't go with a script as you may be reliant on reading it rather than engaging your audience. Instead I would recommend more notes/pointers for what you will say so that your delivery style is slightly more natural rather than scripted.

You can however, take any written documents into a presentation with you to help you present, and if you think a script is better for you, then you should do that. I just tend to find people end up reading from the script too heavily and tend to get less eye contact with their audience than if they used more shorthand/notes.
Thank you for your advice!! I will bring some flash cards with me :) @Jessica Booker @chrisbrown

Just double checking again- anyone heard back from stage 2 of AS Amazon scheme.

They said interviews would be taking place this week.

I never heard back about the astra zeneca scheme and someone already had a phone interview
Yeah it’s really odd because they held all the VI’s for the Covington mentoring scheme on 16-17th Jan and told us we would hear back by the 20-21st with application updates (whether we were successful or not).

I had a telephone interview as an adjustment. I haven’t heard back from them since and even sent a follow up email. Not sure what is going on at this point. Surprised to hear it’s the same for the other mentoring schemes!
