I said I would like to attend an open day to learn how a firm's M&A stands out from the crowd. How can I develop this further @Amma Usman @Andrei Radu?

Hiya @tosin4774

@Andrei Radu and @Amma Usman would definitely have much more to say here, but I wanted to jump in so that you could get a start on developing your answer to this question.

One thing I've noticed in various applicants' answers to these sorts of questions is that they can normally afford to be more specific about their interests in corporate M&A work. The term itself is incredibly broad, and can encompass everything from structuring deals, financing them, considering governance and regulatory issues, and so on. Firms often have distinct strengths within this area, so identifying what interests you most about their particular M&A work will help you craft a much more focused answer. I'd encourage you to have a closer look at the firm's M&A expertise here.

You might also want to think about why M&A interests you personally. Is it the strategic element of helping companies grow in certain ways? Is it the potential to gain exposure to different sectors and their potential interaction in a deal or transaction? Is there some other factor you find compelling? When you can pinpoint what fascinates you, it becomes easier to articulate why you want to learn more about how the firm approaches these aspects during an open day event.

Hope this offers some prompts to get you to develop your answer further. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I’m working on my CV for the Freshfields TC application and was wondering if anyone knows whether they’d accept a 2-page CV? I have two versions – one that’s 1 page and another that’s 2 pages, which is slightly more detailed as I’ve been out of university for a few years and have some work experience and publications. I know a 1-page CV is the norm, but I’m not sure if it’s worth including the extra details. Would love to hear any advice – thanks in advance!

Hiya @paralegaltotrainee

They might accept it, but if I remember correctly there's no need to submit a CV. From previous experience, I've also been told that it's very unlikely to be read. You should be able to include all your relevant work experiences on the Vantage form itself. There should also be enough word count space for you to adequately describe the various tasks and responsibilities you carried out during each role. Good luck with the application!

Thank you so much! That is really helpful – I really appreciate it! 😊

Do you also know if there are any formatting requirements for the personal statement?

You don't need to include a CV.

If you still want to include it (it most likely won't be read), a two page CV is the norm rather than a one page CV.
