As someone who didn't make it this time, I would be really interested to hear your main takeaways? Was there anything that you thought particularly stood out about the webinar in comparison to others that you have attended too?

The main takeaways were that they explained the difference in the level of commercial awareness required for interviews at direct TC application than at VS interview.

Another takeaway that I was shocked about was the thing about work experience and that someone with no legal work experience got a TC through the direct TC route. Also, the session was really informal and interactive which I loved.

Would a candidate’s performance in the application process prior to receiving an offer for a VS likely affect the firm’s decision to offer a TC? Or would it only be the performance during the VS? I would appreciate some insight @Jessica Booker!

Had a feedback call after an unsuccessful post-AC. However, I found the feedback to be super encouraging. The interviewers said I was more than capable of doing the role and that I showed a strong understanding of the firm and showed enthusiasm for embarking on a career in law. It was my first ever interview so I am really proud of myself, although it's not the outcome I wanted, the feedback has made me want to try even harder!

Hi @A494,

If the application does not ask for a cover letter, then I would be inclined not to include a formal cover letter attachment, but instead you could use the body of the e-mail to write a short 'cover e-mail' in effect, where you outline your interest in the position and experiences.

It won't be a standard response. If you didn't make the standard or the firm felt like there were many more stronger candidates ahead of you, you wouldn't be on the reserve list.

Some firms can experience fluctuating acceptance rates. All it takes is for a lot of other firms' scheme dates to conflict or a few competitors to start making early TC offers and the firm can find they have a significant decline/renege rate, meaning they will want to top the numbers back up from the reserve list.

They just can't make any guarantees of people declining/reneging and cannot afford to over offer at the same time.

So I would take this as a somewhat frustrating positive - the firm would be willing to make you an offer, they just don't have the vacancy right now to do so, but could have in the coming weeks/months.

You could potentially find out how the reserve list works though and how that might affect your chances of getting a spot.

Yeah I emailed grad rec as I tried to do the VI today. They are still waiting to hear from the technical team and will communicate a new deadline shortly. Didn’t give a date so I guess we just need to continue prepping for it!
