Hi guys, what do we think are the generally relevant 'broad brush' commercial issues right now? I'm thinking oil and gas/energy prices, inflation/consumer appetite, economic downturn (e.g. production in China), tech stocks coming down.

This is all I can think of at the moment - is there anything else that people think is a 'everyone should know topic', e.g. like collapse of the high street and Brexit, COVID etc were? Avoiding war because I don't think it's something that would be mentioned in interview...

Hopefully this can be helpful for all of us preparing for ACs!

Oh wow, guess I'll be prepping conflict issues too haha

Thanks re the currency, that's a good one!
Just to say that you may not be able to prep every major news story in great detail so as long as you're able to identify the main issue within the story and the impact on the economy + law firms and their clients, you should be good!

Been sitting on this for a while, but I just accepted a TC with Freshfields! Deeply and eternally grateful to all here for the advice and encouragement over the last few years, and for being a great community on the whole.

As my journey to this point has been a bit atypical in some ways, in the near future I'll write up a dedicated post sharing my experiences and what I learned along the way - hopefully this will be helpful both to a general audience and to people facing similar challenges to those I encountered. In the meantime, I'll still be around the forums and monitoring my inbox so happy to answer questions, chat, have a laugh &c.

Has anyone got any advice on what an executive summary looks like in an email to a partner? The ones I'm seeing when I search are extraordinarily long, but I was thinking 2-3 bullet points summarising a) top issues b) solutions?

This probably depends a lot on 1) the content and 2) the preferences of the relevant partner.

I'd try to cover off the following: high level overview of the situation/issue, potential sticking points, action items/next steps/inputs outstanding.

Important part of the exercise will be about how it's structured/presented - clear separation of points, signposting (bullets/enumerated lists are your friend if used thoughtfully).

Try to minimise ambiguity and if any ambiguities are unavoidable because of imperfect information (a common problem in real practice) indicate this and include it as actionable (eg. Need to get XYZ detail from client, ABC comment from such and such specialist)

It's been a while since I've posted on the forum but really happy to say that I've accepted the TC offer from Dentons! TCLA was a huge part of my application journey and a tremendous help. I really appreciate everything the team and the community does on this platform. I will continue lurking and helping out where I can, but also feel free to DM me with any questions - I will always answer your Qs to the best of my ability.

I also want to give back to the TCLA community - @Jessica Booker @Jaysen - are there any opportunities for me to become involved at TCLA?? Would love to join the application review team!

Congratulations @SCN! Very happy for you 👏👏👏 We do not have any job openings currently but I do hope that you'll keep posting on the forum and supporting our members by sharing your experiences and advice! Now that you are a future trainee, I also want to encourage you to join TCLA's Junior Lawyers' Community so that you can stay in touch with other people in the same stage as you are!

is anyone else still waiting to hear from HL post WG? It's been weeks and crickets. Is there a contact we can reach out to for an update? I can't find any email on the graduate recruitment website.
