yeah but it’s no secret that firms can see the number of people belonging to a certain diverse group to monitor their own DEI targets. They are just softer than what they had in the US but they still existI think in the UK it’s more something like “if X has A*AA from a state school and has been working part time during school to support their family, they might be more talented than Y, who got the same grades at an elite private school while doing nothing else.” At least for graduate entry jobs.
Whether this happens in practice is another matter
basically in my opinion what you described is more like social justice than DEI in its usual senseI think in the UK it’s more something like “if X has A*AA from a state school and has been working part time during school to support their family, they might be more talented than Y, who got the same grades at an elite private school while doing nothing else.” At least for graduate entry jobs.

Any news on this 🙈no cheeky spb vi insights??? no whisper of "competency only dw" 😽perhaps a Be Wary. CurveBalls Ahead ⚽️ 🫤
I suspect there was one initial round of rejections and they are now looking through our applications before doing AC invites/further rejections.Has anyone heard positively from HL recently, I applied nov did the test early dec and still haven't heard anything and the wait is getting hard now as its one of my last two apps that I am waiting to hear back from and feels like ages since anything has happened
I don’t know, sorryYou know how long we should expect to wait for them post WG?

Hi everyone,
I’m preparing for the Charles Russell Speechlys Video Interview and would appreciate any insights on what to expect. Are the questions mostly competency-based, commercial, or a mix? Any tips on standing out since it’s the final stage?
Tagging @Ram Sabaratnam for guidance thanks in advance!
I disagree. I was asked this in an interview last week. I was even asked about the firm's role and how it can ensure it is best equipped to tackle it... i.e., litigation. But the little law article is very informative and it tells you all you need to know. I read that the day before my interview because I saw a few people on the forum saying they too were asked! Not sure I'd recommend this for a commercial awareness topic to discuss? Plenty going on in the UK commercial, property, corporate sphere to discuss that actually impacts our roles
no unfortunately ive been rocking in my chair with dreadHey, were you able to get any advice on the SPB VI?
Huge congrats that’s super impressive! 🥳Fieldfisher VS offer! They also said on the phone that the assessors were impressed and said I should’ve just applied for Direct TC so they’ve given me that option 😮

Damn! I'm actually kinda shocked that question is being asked on future trainees. Okay, yes it now appears to be relevant for interviews, but I don't see this affecting the role of the majority of UK lawyers. I've had 3 seminars in the last fortnight and Trump ain't on the itineraryI disagree. I was asked this in an interview last week. Not really. They ask whether interviewees think the impact of the DEI news in the US will impact the UK and how it will affect UK law firms - this doesn't mean just the firm itself but the advice they give.Damn! I wonder if this is more of an HR-oriented question than a future lawyer one?
Does it affect legal advice though? Not really. They ask whether interviewees think the impact of the DEI news in the US will impact the UK and how it will affect UK law firms - this doesn't mean just the firm itself but the advice they give.
