for Holman Fenwick willan, should i refer to them exclusively as HFW as on their website or full name - I know they've changed it to the abbreviation but some people still use the full name?

Has any1 heard back from Dechert? I did the written exercise two weeks ago and haven't heard back. Also waiting to hear back on WVS from W&C, HL, Covington and Ashurst.. I feel like no news at this stage is bad news

For Covington they said they would conduct AC’s in November. I feel like it’s so early for them to have read all apps. Just holding out hope

Agreed. However, they read apps as they came in and made decisions. I spoke to graduate recruitment personally. Seeing as the person who got the written exercise applied 2 days before the deadline I’d like to hope for my sake they don’t review them in date order.

I need a little clarification pls, as a non-uk law graduate (so not QLD) if i do the SQE and satisfy the 2 years QWE, does this mean if I get a job I wont be qualified to advise on anything relating to English Law. Im basically trying to understand what the effect of not doing the PGDL will have on me.

They’re super vague in their emails I got the same response. I reckon they invite people to AC if they’re not what they’re looking for they invite more people to VI and leave the AC people hanging it’s cruel.

Hi all, currently completing Goodwin's application and I am a bit stuck on this question: Which other firms are you applying to and why?

@Jessica Booker @Ram Sabaratnam (or anyone else) what is the firm looking for in this question? Should we mention how many we are doing or specific firms by name?

My application strategy is quite narrowed, and I'm essentially only applying to firms that fit into three criterias - one of them being a technology specialism, as I am currently working in a tech firm. I've mentioned this already in my 'why goodwin', so I'm worried I'm going to be repeating myself in this question. Thanks in advance!

Again, I think @Jessica Booker hit the nail on this. Just wanted to elaborate slightly on this, don't worry too much about repetition. It’s natural for your interest in technology-focused firms to come up again here, especially since it’s such an important part of Goodwin's work and also your motivations for applying to them. In fact, this question is a great opportunity to say a bit more here as to why technology specialism matters to you within a law firm context.

When I applied to Goodwin, I mentioned my interest in firms with a focus on life sciences and healthcare, mid-market to high-value matters, and a smaller trainee intake. I also specified that I was applying to both Cooley and Ropes & Gray, as they aligned well with my interests. You might consider naming 2-3 firms that fit your own criteria and briefly explaining why their work or approach resonates with you. This can help Goodwin see that your choices are intentional and well-aligned with what you’re looking for in a legal career. It also shows that you've taken a very considered approach to your applications.
