Hey Guest, do you have a question for graduate recruitment? Gemma Baker from Willkie is live to answer your questions!
Love this post and I need to watch the apprentice the candidates are another level this week. Just want to say being on the Apprentice is not as ner racking as been on an assessment centre. After a bit of a wild week, just wanted to say a massive congratulations to everyone on this forum for being some absolute legends.
Things we've weathered this week include:
- The end of the vast majority of application submissions 🥳
- A hell of a lot of PFOs and rejections
- Another week of nail-biting waiting
It is for these reasons that everyone should be vv proud of themselves. Despite there being these moments there is always someone to friendly react or someone to offer consoling words of wisdom.
Be kind to yourselves this weekend!! And a massive congratulations to everyone who had positive news this week, all of the manifesting is paying off!
This weekend you can find me with a gin catching up on the Apprentice ✌️ 😗
This week's episode was top notch! Definitely my favourite so far! Also there was an ex-tax lawyer on Dragons' Den if anyone wants to see whats possible if you decide to quit lawLove this post and I need to watch the apprentice the candidates are another level this week. I saw posts from previous years and last year people got WG invites/PFO on the last week of FebHas anyone applied to Cooley in the past? If so, how long did it take to receive next stage or PFO?
Prep for the VI and call them on Monday to confirm the status of your app- if they said you're through to VI, then you will have prepped for it. If they say no, then you would've brushed up on your VI prep for future applications. No the weird thing is that I got an email from graduate recruitmemnt whose name I know said that I got rejected post WG. I wanted to know should I start preparing for VI or should I contact gradusate recruitment. Also I know they won't reply until Monday and plus I don't want to waste 2 days doing nothing.
Follow your instinct with this and at the same time err on the side of caution because you will not be able to pick up on social cues in a VI to know whether your joke will be received well or not. What do you guys think about being a little cheeky in a video interview and making a small joke? I know that firms want to see your personality in the video interview and see you relaxed rather than overly rehearsed so what are your thoughts about this? Or is too unprofessional?
@Jessica Booker
I think for CRS, it depends on the office to my experience. Last year they did it really slow to send out VIs.Has anyone heard from Charles Russell Speechlys, BLM or Fladgate?
After 2 cycles, I decided that having a top firm was not for me because it just leads to more heartbreak if I get rejected! That being said my interactions with certain firms’ trainees like Stephenson Harwood really helped convince me that they were a lovely firm with likeminded people! I’ve also really been impressed with NRF (who have quite a diverse GR team) and all the support they’ve given us to prepare for assessment centre/very nice TIhas the application process of a firm (whether that be interactions with grad rec or issues with the process itself) put anyone off any firms? Also out of curiosity, what's everyone's top firm and why
If you are forcing it in for the sake of it, then don’t. If it’s naturally happened as you present your answer then this won’t be an issueWhat do you guys think about being a little cheeky in a video interview and making a small joke? Thank you for this and that is what I am planning on doing this weekend.Prep for the VI and call them on Monday to confirm the status of your app- if they said you're through to VI, then you will have prepped for it. If they say no, then you would've brushed up on your VI prep for future applications.
If it's organic and doesn't detract from your substantive points I don't think there's any harm. What do you guys think about being a little cheeky in a video interview and making a small joke? I know that firms want to see your personality in the video interview and see you relaxed rather than overly rehearsed so what are your thoughts about this? Or is too unprofessional?

I’ve interviewed at a few firms and then been completely ignored - definitely gone off them from that hahahas the application process of a firm (whether that be interactions with grad rec or issues with the process itself) put anyone off any firms? I worked alongside the GDL last year and found it really managable! I did it at Uni of Law, a lot of my friends did the same and also didn't struggle, its just a case of managing your time properly. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questionsDon’t know if anyone can advise on this…
What are your options if the 10k maintenance grant for the GDL won’t be sufficient for you to live in London? That could just about cover rent…
I have a job offer already so was considering working along side it but don’t know if it’s realistic?
I could go home but I am not from London so may have to do the online version, which would make me v sad and lonely lol 😭
Just app, didn't get an invite to WG.So sorry to hear this, do you mind me asking what stage this was after?
