TCLA Direct Training Contract Applications Discussion Thread 2023-4

I made two applications last year because I wanted to head to the bar before this, so I count this year as my first proper application cycle. I'm a master's student at a very good uni but it is really hard seeing that it appears everyone who graduated with me last year has a training contract from an amazing law firm. I have had some good progress (only in direct TC applications) but I'm just struggling with motivation. It seems like I get to the end and then bottle it. My application cycle hasn't even finished this year but I just feel like I won't get anything and the idea of starting a training contract in 2027 just seems so far away. Is anyone else struggling?

I feel the same as you. It was my first cycle and I did get interviews but I managed to mess up all of them.

Does anyone know whether Baker McKenzie's amberjack is just an SJT with some verbal intellect questions or is there also a video interview portion of it?

There was no video interview it was just a mix of SJT and intellect Qs - not sure if there will be a VI later on

This is genuinely so jarring, I still haven't received a response from BM and im not sure whether to interpret it as a ghosting/rejection or an indication that they are still processing applications, it is just a bit weird considering they sent out some PFOs last week.

Yeah Im a bit stumped too. Just going off of this forum, it doesnt seem like theyve responses at large to any one group.

Since bakers said mid April at the latest in their app confirmation email, doesn’t that mean today should be the last day we hear back from them? This coming week is w/c 22nd so not sure if they’ll have enough time to review SJT’s and VI’s before their AC’s mid May.

Last Tuesday - 9th - with a ‘deadline’ of Sunday so had assumed we’d hear something this week

In all fairness they said the same last year about ACs bring mid May but the last AC was around early-mid June…

Yeah idk they said the last AC is May 25. First one is May 16 I believe.
