Not yet!
It is frustrating because I'm fairly sure that they knew before the deadline that they wouldn't be making offers, given the financial mess that the firm has been in these past few months.
Well I am approaching the first part of the question (have yet to submit my application) as relating what DWF does well (strengths, practice areas, business strategy) with its position in the legal market. It seemed like a good opportunity to use some commercial awareness.
I would say that it's worth applying for vac schemes, if only for the experience of the recruitment process itself. For example, you could do a "test run" for a firm that maybe you wouldn't apply for a TC (but is along the lines of what you want to do) to get a feel for what goes into am...
There are some law firms which don't focus on academics - for example, Shoosmiths takes CCC for A level requirements and just requires a completed degree. The problem for you is that your options are going to be severely limited, and - trust me - it's already really competitive out there!
Would...
I am getting ready to apply for the TC too. I think the emphasis is "how would you approach them?". So, for example, what would you do/how would you manage when faced with the challenge of being given work from different supervisors.
I made a list of firms which accepted a TC application after being unsuccessful. Just double checked after I saw this and it does actually say on the grad rec page that they don't accept them. Not sure how I mixed them up!
Submitted the training contract application yesterday. I have worked so hard on it after failing to pass the application stage for the VS!
Good luck to everybody else who applied :-)
I've had mine back obviously or I wouldn't know that I hadn't been successful. Each office seems to be on a different schedule anyway. Seems weird that you weren't told in your interview though...
Thank you for sharing. When you discussed hobbies, did you use the STAR structure to answering? And did you use it as an opportunity to discuss their trainee values?
I was nervous and was thrown off with the type of questions. I was expecting more of a conversation with strength based questions to show personality. I didn't use the STAR approach with the skills question and could have expanded all three answers really.
It's a learning process! Hopefully I...
Fingers crossed for you. Mine wasn't great and unfortunately I didn't get an offer. Will be applying again next year though, hopefully I will be more successful!
So I'm looking at applying for the TC after being unsuccessful (at the application stage) for the vac scheme application.
Any advice from those who were successful would be really appreciated. For example, how did you tackle the word counts for the hobby and achievement questions? Did you use...
Well for the Liverpool office they asked "what skills do lawyers need?", "what makes us unique?" and "what challenges do we face?"
Good luck - let us know how you get on!
I don't think they have contacted London applicants either yet. Weird because they have a timeline on their site so you'd think they would notify you if they were running behind.
To be honest I messed up with my applications for everywhere this cycle. I approached them far too academically and...
Well I'm sure you know by now the values and skills that they are looking for because that's what got you to this point. You just need to show them in action and present yourself as somebody that the other partners and associates would want to work with.
There is no set way to impress in a...
It was mainly about the firm.
I feel like what I said was good but perhaps I just rushed it. Wish I had taken a bit more of a breath before speaking. Might just not have been good enough for me this time!
They didn't really ask anything about me, which I was surprised about. I think it went okay... I felt like I rambled a bit. And one of the interviewers was very serious which was a little daunting!
Good luck
