No not yet! Nothing since I had to resubmit my app through Apply4Law in January as they decided they didn't like the original paper applications anymore lol
This is very true. I applied to Travers Smith in October and put a lot of thought into my application and they didn't even read it (for the second year in a row just to add insult to injury), but I applied to Simmons & Simmons on a whim on the day of the deadline despite thinking I would fail...
Sigh. I made a big effort to apply early and to the VS for this cycle because last year they didn't bother to read my application. If I'm getting the same treatment this year, I know that if I end up having to do another cycle, I don't think I'm going to bother applying at all.
FINALLY got a response from Winckworth Sherwood after waiting since Jan 17th. The standard of apps was apparently super high and they only had 10 vac scheme places so they've only offered them to candidates 'who most needed the work experience', but I got through to the Direct TC interview...
I think the answer is that it depends on your experience level. Some people are going to get a lot of work because they are experienced, but right now there isn't a huge amount out there, and the firms that use Flex seem to be more hesitant to use people with less experience as they cannot...
I think so. In the past, I've talked about a family member who overcame a physical disability to succeed, or, failing that (if the question is more along the lines of who would you invite to dinner etc), I have mentioned my favourite niche sporting hero.
So if you have a vac scheme that's not until the summer, is it normal to want to keep track of goings on with the firm (i.e. deals they've been involved with) to familiarise yourself with the kind of things they're working on or am I just being a bit obsessive and TC mad?
I can second this. I had to do an interview on third-party litigation funding recently which is something I knew very little about and 95% of the info I obtained came from lexology. The only problem is that because a lot of the commentary is drawn from practitioner blogs, I don't think there is...
I don't know about you but I only did most of my interviews last week and still have at least 10 firms to hear back from! As far as I'm concerned this is far from over!
The Simmons interview was on thursday and was totally separate actually, although reading the interview experiences on here was actually super helpful considering that they are quite old!
This latest interview was for a US law firm. I had to answer some commercial questions at a technical level...
Lol it could just be luck of the draw but minutes after moaning to the internet and all my friends about it I literally just got a Vacation Scheme at Simmons and Simmons (not the firm in question) so it's all worked out!
Just got absolutely crucified in an interview today. Easily the most difficult one I've done yet over the course of three separate cycles. Requesting thoughts and prayers pls
I mean, it probably also doesn't hurt that the LCIA is there, which is one of the pre-eminent global arbitration centres and there is already a really strong offering for insurance and shipping arbitrations in London too. AFAIK about the barristers however, it tends to only be those who aren't...
Definitely how I viewed it. Took one look at their application form and in particular that one question that asked why I would be interested in a career at a transactional law firm, and being far more interested in disputes and investigations I just noped out of there straight away!
