The standards definitely do vary. I studied a non-law subject at one RG university and then did a law degree at Bristol. I ended up getting the exact same grade in both courses. But due to the way they marked law courses at Bristol combined with the intensity of a law degree itself meant I...
I don't know what OP finds interesting about it, but I've always liked the human element of it as I have volunteered in a law clinic for over two years. And trusts law is very quirky and interesting. So in my apps, I've been targeting firms that do both commercial and/or private client work as I...
I don't know if this will help, but to provide some context, when I applied for Macs' direct TC last year, my AC invite was in late July. They might be running things differently this year with such an increase in applications.
Direct TC interview invite from Beale & Company! Just goes to show if you haven't heard back from a law firm in a while give them an email asking how things are going - you might be surprised!
This is a tricky question because it asks you to do a lot of things a once. The trick is to not focus too much on the detail, as the firm is clearly looking for multiple skills rather than just one. So don't get too caught up in the first two parts of the question, to start with. As for applying...
Ironically, this firm spent next to no money on promoting itself to graduates. It has no presence on any of the 'major' legal recruitment websites aimed at grads (chambers student, Legal Cheek or Lex) - in fact the only details about the firm's trainee program are on a very small (and sparsely...
This isn't the first time it's happened, either. I'm starting to wonder if there should be a list of firms known for doing lame things like this so people can go into their interviews with open eyes. A bit like ROF's Golden Turd awards at the end of every year. If we know the good side of firms...
Sigh...rejection post-interview for Brown Rudnick. Can't say I'm surprised given how tough the questions were, but just an FYI - they are one of those crappy firms that refuse to give feedback. Just a heads up for anyone interested in applying to them next cycle.
Oh nooo! When I saw my PFO my first thought was I hope at least one of us made it. Never mind - what a journey it's been anyway. Really sucks to get this close and fall short.
Trowers PFO post Summer VS interview. I thought it had gone well, so it'll be interesting to see the feedback, but in a way I'm slightly relieved as the dates of the schemes would have clashed with almost all of my summer exams anyway!
Wasn't the whole reason Archegos ended up being so overleveraged something to do with the fact that it was structured as a family office rather than a traditional hedge fund and therefore didn't have as much scrutiny? That was my takeaway anyway.
I think this story is fascinating, and it's one I'm watching closely, although not necessarily just for interview practice. It has every single element of a classic financial scandal - I wonder if in 10 years there might even be a film made about it. You have the larger-than-life salesman in an...
I have heard of people doing masters in specialised fields that have been funded e.g. Oxford's Diploma in IP Law, or KCL's LLM in Competition law so it is possible, but again that seems to be something done a few years post-qualification, not pre-TC.
To go a step further, if you find yourself in the position I did, which was having done a law degree and not really wanting to commit to the job market at a time of great uncertainty, I now realise that even just studying the LPC has made me a lot more commercially aware. It has given me a lot...
It's possible! Won't affect me much either way as I have loads of mates still there and plenty of options when it comes to accommodation. But for revision purposes, it would be much more beneficial for me to stay at home, that's for sure.
I am hoping that Simmons & Simmons' will be online as I will otherwise have to find somewhere to stay in Bristol and the scheme also ends four days before my exams begin whelp
I applied back in October and there wasn't much choice at the time. To revisit it and have to copy/paste every single detail felt quite tedious lol.
I think the next stage is just an AC but I don't really know or mind much as I have a VS now.
I applied to London - what about you?
