    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Has anyone heard back from TLT? My portal has changed from "In Process. There is nothing you need to do" to just "In Process" - but I haven't had any updates. They said we'd hear back by the end of the month so I'm getting a bit antsy now.

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi @Jessica Booker I'm trying to write an application answer for what skills I would bring to the role (trainee). I understand that every firm's advice is that the answer must be specific to them - but how to I do that for this question when the jobs a trainee would do and the skills I have are...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi @Jessica Booker, In an application, I'd like to refer to people at the firm who aren't lawyers (like paralegals, secretaries, grad rec etc) under one term but can't find quite the right phrase. I feel like "support staff" and "administrative staff" might be a bit dismissive and "non-legal...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Someone recently said that they do two ACs per year and have just done the second one. However, after that was posted, I contacted grad rec for an update on my application and they said they're hoping to get back to everyone by the end of the month. I'm assuming (and may not be correct) that...

Ok, thanks. I was getting all kinds of thoughts about people being scouted or things like that.

    I am interested.

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi @Jessica Booker, I'm applying to an Open Day and it states "places are exclusively reserved for those who successfully apply". I thought that was a given so the fact that they've stated it on their promotion makes me feel like perhaps that's not always the case. Is it normal for there to be...

They told me we'd hear back by the end of the month "hopefully". I'm still waiting on Macs and Travers.

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi @Jessica Booker, I was wondering whether graduate recruitment see our contextual data or just get some kind of contextual code or number to identify people. I'm not really sure how contextual recruitment actually works other than that it takes into consideration people's background.

Thanks - I've already attended a few over the last couple of weeks and have more coming up. Just a shame for me because the open days seems to be full day.

As a teacher, I'm not allowed to take time off at all during term-time. Is this something I should explain as to why I've not attended events with a firm? Does anyone know of opportunities that happen on weekends - everything I've seen has been on weekdays (presumably because grad rec and...

How hard is it to pass the LPC?

I can't help with your question as I've not done the LPC but I was studying the GDL with them this year and it has been absolutely horrendous so I feel your pain. For one module I had no access to the online material. IT emailed to say they were working on it and they'd let me know when it was...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi @Jessica Booker I have an application that only allows me to list four things under work experience. My last two full-positions have not been law related. Am I better off mentioning part-time or temporary positions or things a while ago that are law related (vacation schemes etc) or my...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

This makes perfect sense. Essentially, they'll weed out anyone with poor writing skills at the first stage and, even though they allow the fakes through that round, they find them out later on so they aren't actually successful without merit.

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

I had a similar situation once where I was rejected because the open day was full, not because they didn't like my application so maybe that's the case here?

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi Jessica, I was wondering why firms place such importance on how well written an application is (tailored to the firm, grammatical errors, STAR technique etc) when it's common for people to pay professionals to write their applications for them? I've had a look at a couple of applications and...

I'm not sure if firms have said they won't assess on those grades - just that they don't have a minimum requirement. Meaning that they still consider them but they won't exclude a candidate who has a first class degree and wealth of work experience, clear motivation and desire and everything...
