How would you answer this question for the shoosmiths tc, quite stumped : How do you expect to use generative AI tools to enhance your effectiveness as a solicitor in the future? If you have, you may also choose to include specific examples of how you have utilised generative AI to elevate part of your application to Shoosmiths, in this answer

That’s odd, I’m pretty certain the test is automatic and should have been in the ‘thank you for applying’ email.
that's strange, because i literally just got this email when i applied:

"Dear x,

Reference: x

Thank you for applying for a role at Shoosmiths.

We will be in touch after the deadline of the vacancy you have applied for to confirm the outcome of your application. To check the status of your application you can log into your account at any time.

@Ram Sabaratnam @Andrei Radu @Amma Usman Hi, if we're applying again to the firm for a direct TC that rejected us for the VS, would you recommend applying from the same email ID or different?
Just apply with the same email address. ATS systems are sophisticated enough to pick up duplicate applications from candidates beyond email addresses and will use other key data to flag a potential duplication.

@Andrei Radu @Jessica Booker Hi Andrei and Jessica! I'm required to send a professional headshot for a VS offer—does this mean an actual professional headshot with studio lighting? Or should a professionally shot graduation-type picture be okay?
No need for a professional to take the photo - it can just be an appropriate digital photo taken by a friend on a suitable background that is head/shoulders.

Anyone know if Paul Hastings 2/3 deadline means it is due tonight 2359 or tomorrow?
A 2 March 2025 deadline means some time on that day, never 2359 the day before. There is potential for all kinds of weird timings tbh: I've seen 5pm, noon, 9am cut-oiffs. However, given that they don't give a time, plus it's a Sunday, it's almost certainly 23:59 tomorrow, but you can't be 100% certain if leaving it till the last day.

As the 2nd is a Sunday, I would expect this to be 23.59 as there would be no reason to close it at say 12 noon or 5.00pm where no one is working on that day. I could be wrong, but a strongly suspect it will be 23.59 given it’s a non working day.

Yeah that sounds like a mistake. From the wording of that email, it sounds like you applied for a job. Have you been able to track your application?

I got this response but applied for direct training contract rather than the vacation scheme.

Hi guys, going for an AC interview soon and I just wanted to ask people's opinion on something that's pretty subjective!

When I answer competency questions, I'm aware I should structure it with STAR. I was just wondering if you think it's necessary/beneficial to end with a little reflection (e.g.) this will help me as a trainee because XYZ/i think this applies to a legal context because XYZ. My only concern is that if I do this for every question, it may seem a little robotic/contrived.

I went for an AC interview at a silver circle firm last year which was extremely competency based, and I structured it as STAR with no reflection as to how this will help in my TC. I was rejected. During the feedback session, my failure to add a reflection wasn't actually singled out as a reason why I didn't pass but they did say that I 'was so close' and just needed something extra. I'm not exactly sure what this means and probably should've asked lol but I wonder if this reflection would have made me more successful.

@Jessica Booker, @Amma Usman, @Andrei Radu and other TCLA administrators (sorry! I can't remember them all so I just mentioned the names I've seen most frequently), would love to know your thoughts on this. For anybody else in the forum who might like to offer their two cents, I would greatly appreciate it as well!

Hope everybody has a good weekend!

ok, I may or may not be the stupidest person on this forum at this point I think 😂😂😂 Basically, I applied to Shoosmiths for a direct TC, and in the beginning you have to justify why you picked the particular location; so I explained why London.... As I started reading, I realized I started with: "I have chosen to apply to Farrer & Co’s London office because [...]" (because Farrer & Co had the same question, basically it's why London over other cities in the UK, so in my answer I didn't mention the firm specifically, but just what London means to me, but still stupid for not changing the name of the firm in my answer)... Such a stupid mistake that results in auto-pfo I guess😂😂 Thing is it's in the beginning beginning so not with the other main application questions, so I hope they overlooked it or something but I am actually so stupid😂😂😂
