I have an interview with Slaughter and May next week and trying to speedrun my current affairs knowledge and ability to debate / have a coherent viewpoint. Does anyone have any general advice for the interview? I'm also a History student so I'm also prepping for questions like 'Why not politics/academia/banking' and when I get asked what my favourite module is.

For what it's worth, I'm from an Oxbridge background but still quite nervous about the nature of the interview where they can pick up on any topic/theme you mention + ask random questions on it.

Also, is it safe to assume PFO from HSF and Latham & Watkins if I haven't heard back yet? I did go to the Latham Open Day but had to rush my VS application. Passed HSF test benchmark on 9th Dec.

Was your HSF application for the Spring VS or Summer? I applied for Summer.

I submitted my HSF application on the 1st of Dec and passed the benchmark on the 3rd of Dec and I also have not heard back at all.

I wonder if HSF goes through Spring VS applications first and then the Summer ones.

I read somewhere on this forum that HSF get back to people in batches and review strong applications a few times before making final AC offers as they recieve 1000’s of applications.

Not sure whether to assume PFO.

1) I haven't seen anyone receive an AC invite for the summer
2) They might start sending out AC invites for Spring; summer seems a tiny bit too early (probably end of Jan...)
3) I also applied fo the summer and passed the benchmark so I am praying that it's not a PFO

That’s what I am hoping is the case because I have seen a fair amount of AC offers from HSF on the forum but only for their spring vs.

I haven’t seen any people receive AC offers for summer vs yet.

Normally the AC’s run through to February for the summer vs but I hope we get a response by mid to end Jan so we have time to prepare if we are successful.

If not I’m cooked 😂😂

Have you done it yet? Just wondering whether it's a "here's your question, you have 90 seconds to think of an answer" (so you need to be prepped in advance) or a "here's the first question, you can record the answer whenever you're ready" type of vi.

There was an interview last year before the scheme, it is the same as last year.

How are you telling me it is the same when I said it wasn’t?

Last year it was application > live interview on zoom > VS offer.

There was no prerecorded interview.

Strangely they spammed me with 7 emails saying exactly the same thing, which by the way does not make sense because I already applied and did the test (which they say we will have to do again if successful on the 7th of Jan... really confused, anyone has a take on this?? 😂 😂 😂 )

I don’t think you should assume that. I applied spring and I just got an AC invite, so it might still take a bit before they start to send out invites for summer.

Can I ask when did you apply and when did you take the SJT test / get confirmation that you had met or passed the benchmark. 🙂

For firm applications like CMS
that ask you about any resits you have taken, does that automatically put you out of the running if you had? I did a few resits over the course of university (2nd and 3rd year) but it was in my undergraduate degree which was not Scots Law for sickness and bereavement reasons- thanks COVID. I know the answer will probably be it depends but I am sure my reasons are not especially compelling considering everyone experienced much of the same thing and potentially did not have resits?
