oh I just meant any kind of general trends!

It’s tricky because the big four’s movement into the legal industry is more a threat to magic circles who do similar work for financial institutions than it is to say national commercial firms.

When I see the question, I personally consider who the competitors are for that specific firm because it’s an opportunity to show your understanding of that firm. To know that, you need to know what work the firm does, it’s main client base, and it’s specialist areas where it’s competitors are doing similar work. From there, I find you can be a bit more creative in what the firm can do to remain competitive as you have a deeper understanding of what work it’s competing for from what clients. For example, if the firm is specialists in the technology sector, you might focus on how the firm can provide ‘value add’ technology or services through packages tailored to start-ups that other firms aren’t offering.

Interesting corporation tax move. Corporation tax is staying at 19% for companies with profits up to £50,000. It'll increase after that, reaching a 25% tax on companies with profits from £250,000.

Does anyone have tips to stop yourself waffling in an interview? I feel like once I start talking, I just do not stop until the boredom/annoyance on the other person's face gets to boiling point

As others have mentioned, I think the key to solving this is having a solid structure for all your answers.

I used to be terrible for rambling on... and on... and on... and on... and on... (sorry I'll stop now). Eventually realised that it was because I was answering without a clearly defined structure, so I had no idea whether I'd said way too much, not enough or the right amount, and no idea whether it was actually any good content. My article on interviews, available via my signature, breaks down structures for most of the most common interview questions types and will hopefully help if you've not read it already. The only thing you then really need is the discipline to stop talking when you know you've said everything in your planned structure!
