Welcome back everyone! Next up in our series of interviews with future trainee solicitors, we had the fantastic opportunity to hear from a future trainee at DAC Beachcroft.
1. Who is your training contract with?
DAC Beachcroft
2. Are you a law or non-law candidate?
Law
3. Which...
Hiya!
I don’t think there is anything wrong with this but the key here would be to really focus on your justifications.
I think firms ask this question to get a further understanding of your motivations and interests regarding a career in commercial law. Therefore it’s perfectly fine to have...
Welcome back everyone to the next article in our series of interviews with future trainee solicitors. In this article, we are delighted to have heard from Natasha, a future trainee at DLA Piper.
1. Who is your training contract with?
DLA Piper
2. Are you a law or non-law candidate?
Law...
Hiya!
From my experience, most applications will allow you to input your first and last name as well as your preferred name so this should be fine.
If anything, I don’t see anything wrong with simply clarifying with grad recruitment - it’s really just an admin issue in my opinion.
Hope this...
Hiya!
I agree with the above comments. I would definitely contact grad recruitment to see if any adjustments can be made e.g. a longer break.
I also find that sipping on water during the day helps keep me alert. I also usually pack little snacks to have when I can.
Best of luck ☺️
Hiya!
I think sometimes this comes down to the structure of your arguments. When reading articles I would often try to pick up points using the PESTLE structure (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental). For each point, I would try to think pretty holistically e.g...
Hiya!
I think it's also important to consider the fact that not all law firms will necessarily be impacted. Some law firms have a significant number of clients within the industry whilst others may be considerably distanced. So I think I'd approach my research and analysis on a client by...
Hiya!
I usually took the former approach. I think it's best to choose a story that has progressed over time, perhaps over a couple of months. This way you have more scope for discussion as you can include in your answer the impact and role played by the different trends and your opinions on...
Hiya!
I completely agree with the responses given above and think they will be super useful in helping streamline your prep.
From my own experiences, I have always took this question as one that is very open-ended. I don't think there is necessarily a right or wrong answer. My personal...
Hiya!
I agree with the above comments.
I would definitely put them down. I don't see anything wrong or negative with doing so- it's an asset and something you should be very proud of (being totally honest I've always been very jealous of multilingual speakers 😅, not my forte but I'm learning!).
Hiya!
I think ideally you want to use a story that has progressed over time as this gives you more scope to cover during your discussion. So I definitely don't think October is too far off if thats when the initial story happened, so long as you are able to account for the present updates...
I always seemed to be in public 😅 so it was very muffed emotions until I got home (I'm sure I got some weird stares, seemed a bit too happy for a regular day)
Hiya!
My personal take would be to answer more generally rather than relate it to myself. Instead, you can go into more detail explaining what the challenges are, why these challenges are likely and how could they could be resolved ☺️
Hiya!
I don't think this will matter at all. It's not a condition that you must apply to 10+ firms.
I would just simply say that this is the only firm I applied to then state my specific reasons why. You don't have to get into loads of detail if you don't want to. At the end of the day like I...
Hiya!
I think it's always great to back up your interests with personal experiences. My only advice would be to consider the way you word your response so as to avoid expressing a generic interest in "business", but rather an interest in the legal nature of M&A. So consider the challenges and...
Hiya!
I don't think this is necessarily pigeonholing yourself. In fact, I think being specific is always better as it shows a more personal connection between your own motivations/interests and the particular firm. ☺️
Hiya!
I don't think there is a set time for anyone. Everyone is coming from different backgrounds, circumstances and experiences so naturally what may take one person a weekend to feel prepared and comfortable, may take someone else a week. Also, it's important to remember that it varies across...
Hiya!
I would pick the seats you have a genuine interest in.
You can always arrange to speak to someone in another group at a later stage during the scheme.
I also think, it's quite a good (if your scheme permits) to pick seats that vary across the different practice areas e.g. one week week...
Hiya!
I don't think there is anything wrong with doing so nor do I think this is something that will be unfavourable. Firms know you are likely to be applying elsewhere and if anything the fact that you were successful shows you are a competitive candidate. However, personally I only mentioned...
