    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

This is a forum and the whole purpose of it is that people can ask questions if they are not entirely sure what the right thing to do is. What’s the point of a forum if instead of an answer some people just twist your words and send condescending messages? Responses like this literally defeat...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

If you had read my whole post you would have seen that my question was specifically about how many days one should wait. At no point did I suggest that anyone should respond within an hour, I merely said that I’m expected to, so would like some input as to what is normal. So instead of attacking...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

i have a feeling I know exactly which firm you mean! I hated that interview! The questions were so random and I really don’t see the point in exclusively asking curveball questions And trying to trip someone with every single question. All well and good not being able to over-rehearse the...

Yes I completely get that. Thank you for clarifying. I’ll wait and see I suppose.

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Well, it’s difficult to measure. If I were to take longer than an hour during office hours to respond to an email, I’d be out of a job very quickly, but then again what I do is a lot more time sensitive, which is why I wanted to clarify what would be reasonable. It’s not urgent per se, but a bit...

I really don’t like following up with grad recruitment if they don’t respond, but how long would you wait until emailing again? I received an email on Friday that said that if there are any questions to ask her or email grad rec in general, so I responded to her on Friday after lunch and have...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

When I had my assessment centre, the three people there with me knew every single detail of the case study. Two of them started writing their notes down before we had even been given the piece. It was beyond ridiculous and so blatantly obvious. This was through other people from their university...

    Interview/Open Day/Vacation Scheme Updates- Coronavirus

Thank you, that’s exactly what I did. Particularly since I’m on the GDL (part time) and our exam dates are different. They overlap with both of the summer schemes. So in any case I wouldn’t be able to attend, which they know. I’m sure I’m not the only one that won’t be able to attend the regular...

    Interview/Open Day/Vacation Scheme Updates- Coronavirus

Just to keep everyone in the loop, Linklaters just sent an update to say they are still planning for summer schemes to go ahead, but are exploring virtual options and making the scheme shorter. As I was on the spring scheme, no idea if that means people have been moved to one of the summer...

I’m also curious to know how it works for people that need to still do the GDL. I understand that there’s the accelerated one, but that then means that people on the course won’t have time to work while studying. Are they going to bump up the grants they offer as a result? I’m not on the scheme...

I went through all their trainees on LinkedIn and most of them (90%) have some kind of industry experience either having been a paralegal at one of their clients (Universal, Sony or a big name like that) or worked in the industry in some other capacity. Lee & Thompson on their vac scheme app...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

I just did this for H&L and I wrote about having worked in media on some of the projects they have advised on on the client side, but then equally having worked in corporate finance and am currently working on an acquisition that would size-wise be what they’d be advising on, skills this has...

well, I didn’t say it was a waste of time, but great, thanks. I have just finished my second draft for one of the apps. Suppose it’s always worth trying.

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Do you guys think that there’s a point in doing applications at the moment, or is it a bit of a waste of time? I’m looking at firms such as Wiggin and Harbottle for Media and Entertainment Law, but considering everything in the industry being on hold at the moment and the firms only taking up to...

    Interview/Open Day/Vacation Scheme Updates- Coronavirus

I had a TC offer I turned down because I had the VS with my first choice firm and they have on average a super high conversion rate from VS to TC and I felt that I had a high enough chance of making it that made it worth turning the TC down as the deadline was last week. I’ve done 72...

    Interview/Open Day/Vacation Scheme Updates- Coronavirus

I think it’s more to do with now having to do heaps more applications on top of other worries. If you turn the VS into a TC I’d have known by roughly mid April either way. If I would have been unsuccessful, I would have been able to use it on my CV and do further applications. Now I need to go...

    Interview/Open Day/Vacation Scheme Updates- Coronavirus

very good point! Mine starts on the 30.03. which at this rate will be when things start to get really ugly, so definitely worth adding that the sooner the less likely it is that the scheme will go ahead. Will keep my fingers crossed for you with your flight!!
