Hey @gch1997,
This is certainly a tricky question but what I would do is:
Start with a thorough research of the firm (if the application question is directly asking to talk about these improvements to the law firm you are applying to), especially identifying practice areas that they might not...
Hey @lovelaw223,
In my experience, it is a case study about a commercial topic. Mine was about a private equity deal but I have heard many other cases around analysing who to fire from a company which is merging with another company, or what to consider in an M&A transaction with a private...
I would say that it would make sense for you to apply for the direct training contract since you are working and I am sure you have a good chance of getting it. I would just inquire (maybe by talking to people who are future trainee at the firm) how many people they usually recruit from the...
Amazing idea @flower and @JasmineM9,
I think that this will be a great way to keep yourself accountable and stay up to date with what is going on in the business and legal world. I am looking forward to be reading your posts every Thursday!
Good luck with it and good luck with your...
I think that if they did not specify any dress code (or they say smart casual) I think that it is totally fine to wear your second choice (which I think is elegant as well) so do not worry too much. I would email graduate recruitment if you are unsure tho, just to be on the safer side.
Hey @Jaked,
I am so sorry for what happened to you during your LLM and I cannot even imagine the stress and anxiety you had to go through ever since what happened. I command your resilience and hard work for getting through such a difficult situation which not many would have been able to...
I applied to them last year and some tips I got from future trainees was:
Use the why law, why the firm, why me structure for the cover letter and try to be succinct (aka one page for the cover letter). This will ensure that graduate recruitment already knows that you have some of the skills...
Hey @Ash2323,
1) I would say that there is no fixed amount that you should stick to, it totally depends on your personal judgment so I would say to include all the experiences that you feel will help you and make your application strong. I included 6 work experiences and only a couple were...
I think it really depends on the situation and the interview itself. I would not quantify the number of minutes it is advisable to speak in an interview. This, in my opinion, depends on a number of different factors, i.e. interviewer-interviewee relationship, whether the interview is flowing...
Hey @S87,
I myself have an undergraduate degree completed outside of the United Kingdom and when I was applying to vacation schemes last year I was in your same position. However, I always found space to explain my different education system, I never emailed a law firm with my education...
Unfortunately I do not think there is an actual way as law firms keep this piece of information very confidential. Additionally, there are people who get invites and reject them all the time so the number would not even be accurate. It would definitely be easier though if it was known for sure!
I think I will try and answer the question as it was framed to not risk it, since the question asks to talk about a client and not the firm specifically.
Hey, this is the advice that I gave to someone who asked the same question, I hope that helps:
