SC training contract and practice area choices to move to US firm

He doesn't and that's definitely not the case on the ground. It's a bit more of a nuanced discussion (practice group, career ambitions, clients you're working for, etc). The short answer though, is that they don't work the same hours all things being similar (not by a long shot).

    Clifford Chance ALevel +GCSE

You'll be fine. Your first year grades matter a lot more than your A levels. I'd recommend applying to Spark if you're eligible. Your diverse background, work experience and strong grades will put you in a strong position. Just write great application answers.

Slaughter and May Training Contract Application 2022

I was given a TC offer despite being unsuccessful for their vacation scheme.

Slaughter and May CV - bullet points or paragraphs?

Bullet point is fine. 3 per experience is a good rule of thumb. You need to make it relevant and concise.

    Deciding between training contracts

On top of my answer that @Jaysen had quoted, I can add a bit of perspective on FF/Links. Linklaters is a fairly balanced firm (in terms of all around practice strength), but Freshfields is a much better corporate firm. Especially in terms of PE (where Linklaters isn't as big of a player like...

    Vacation Scheme application prep

Identify the firms you 'really' care about. You should work on those applications earlier (and spend more time on them). You may even want to strategise by specifically applying for their vacation schemes over a direct TC because if you are a strong/successful candidate, you will likely pick...

General, Commercial Stories themes for AC discussion

Firms can lateral hire to fill in 'gaps' at certain expertise levels (trainee, associate, partner or in between). Firms can take on more homegrown trainees in their restructuring departments. Firms can shift lawyers in fairly aligned departments (like corporate/finance) to work on restructuring...

    Clifford Chance TC

If you are a strong candidate, you will get through (irrespective of whether you were 'Target' or Non-Target). As Jessica says, it is designed to deter poor / rushed / repeated (but weak) applicants. CC have already received a few 100 applications, many of which do not fully use the word count...

    Clifford Chance TC commencing 2023

Yes. No. Focus on showing important soft skills / competencies that may not be easily reflected in the work experience section.

    Clifford Chance TC

6000+? I wouldn't know but I figured it would be unless they're slashing many down with filters.

    Clifford Chance TC

Exactly. I imagine it's very hard to look at the number of applications they receive on a non-rolling basis.

    Clifford Chance TC

Basically, unless you're a strong / confident candidate, you might be better off applying elsewhere.

Winter Vac. Schemes & Direct Training Contracts

You should check specifically as to whether applying to a winter vacation scheme would preclude you from the Summer / Direct TC in the same cycle. I know a few firms that allow for a Winter VS application AND a Direct TC application in the same cycle. Winter vacation schemes also have a decent...

    Waiting to apply with results...?

Better to apply first, especially as it is often rolling. You can always update your application down the road via e-mail.

    Streamlining applications to Law firms

There must be an underlying interest as to why you're applying to those firms - especially if they appear to be a diverse range. Just be honest and genuine. Otherwise, it's okay to omit some firms to fit your narrative. Regarding competition / competitors - I think that's a can of worms that...

    Streamlining applications to Law firms

Very few firms see IP as their main driver. You're right on litigation, but a lot of firms see their disputes practice as important (although perhaps less profitable as compared to Corp/Fin). I guess the point is, if you're in an interview and you justify that HL is similar to Baker McKenzie or...

    Upcoming 2022 TCs [Success]

If you believe you're an excellent candidate, then it is always worth applying, even if they primarily select their candidates from their vacation scheme pool.

    Streamlining applications to Law firms

But by definition a lot of firms fit the bill of "a strong focus on finance/ corporate areas and having other departments as support functions". Hogan lovells, Allen & Overy, and a whole other bunch of firms operate precisely like that. Tax, Employment, Pensions, Antitrust are all, by nature...
