TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2021-22 (#1)

Is it surprising when there appears to be multiple candidates holding multiple MC VS (or even TC) offers and they their dates clash? I'd be interested to hear your perspective from Grad Rec. Presumably its because you don't want to lose a 'good'/'excellent' candidate? I did think it was rather...

TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2021-22 (#1)

Okay lol. This was true for my friends and I, and something we did for our TC offers as well (which helped).

TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2021-22 (#1)

I have had various Grad Recs contact me when I updated my LinkedIn (however they were largely competing MC firms). This is also true for five of my other friends. A few of my friends received straight TC offers from their VS Interviews as a result of this too. I'm not sure how to view your...

TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2021-22 (#1)

It's a pretty good tactical choice if you want to put pressure on other firms that are considering you.

If you're set on paying for the Skilled Worker Visa, then there's nothing that can be said and it must surely be the right choice for you - but I would say it's quite an excessively expensive route to only increase your 'chance' to get a Training Contract in the UK. There are a plethora of firms...

Visa - Without a valid visa, you may not be able to undertake paid work in the United Kingdom and therefore you may not be eligible for vacation schemes. Experience - Most firms do not have a set amount of required legal / non-legal work experience. What's important is your ability to...

    LPC Life in London?

The grant is usually designed (although imperfectly) to cover your LPC period (in this case, 7 months). Most people I did the LPC with either (i) stayed at their family home (regardless of how far it may be) or (ii) rented in Clapham, Shoreditch or near Holborn (like Farringdon, etc). It should...

What do firms mean by 'We review applications on a rolling-basis'?

No one could possibly tell you what the current progress of the applications and offers are. Just try to focus on getting a good application out, and then as early as possible. A better application (that is submitted later) is superior to a rushed application.

What do firms mean by 'We review applications on a rolling-basis'?

They review it on a first come first serve basis and send out offers if they're deemed good enough. Therefore, it's possible for those applying near the deadline to not be considered as all offers may have been made.

How to answer “tell me about yourself” for a CV-blind interview

The great thing about CV-blind interviews is that you really get to craft your own narrative. Using the things on your CV and outside of it, you can target things you'd like to present first, or with great detail. Your interviewer will largely be looking to tick off certain qualities that the...

Rejection Following VS- Where to go from here?

If you haven't already, I would ask for as much feedback as you can get from the Graduate Recruitment team and any people that you've worked with directly on the scheme (although you'll have to make a call whether that's something they'll be receptive to, at least for the latter part). From...

    Clifford Chance Work Experience Section

I personally take the same view as Jessica in this case. This is based on my interactions with Graduate Recruitment, being involved with the process (going through the vacation scheme and TC), etc. I would focus on using the words in the Work Experience section to illustrate "Why Law" and/or...

How to research which practice area I could be interested in? (non-law student)

Having reviewed the above recommended videos and resources, I would caution that none of the linked resources are accurate nor representative of commercial law practice areas in city law firms (on the whole, as some parts are right, although sparse in detail). I can't speak on whether they're...

I honestly have no idea what to think after this article (especially the comments section)

Working from home has the potential to increase working hours (or at the very least, increase 'bad' working hours), but that's very person-to-person/team dependent. You may be put with a supervisor that enjoys loading their work into the evenings and expects the same of you. You may be in a team...

Whats up with the lack of Guys and POC in AC's?

Don't worry about me missing anything - I am fairly confident that I understand what's being said. I will briefly address a few things that are blatantly missing thoughtfulness though: 1. US Firms (and others) can recruit candidates (BAME or not, wealthy or not) because they're good...

Whats up with the lack of Guys and POC in AC's?

I'd be interested to see where you're getting the "very high" numbers for this. I can confidently say that most cohorts in most city firms are predominantly White, even if you group every single person of colour and grouped them up. It's also quite lovely to see an asymmetric view taken towards...

    Restructuring

I'd clarify the following: Kirkland usually represent sponsor side (e.g. investors). Kirkland's relationship with financial institutions (e.g. funds) is an important thing, because they are involved in the entire lifecycle of the funds/investors they're representing. That's the point of their...

Ask 3 future trainees (Magic & Silver Circle, International Elite) ANYTHING! *New TCLA Team Members*

Answer to 1: No. If you were asked something like that, it is usually from a natural source. For example, due to something you've said, like mentioning antitrust issues, etc, or from your CV, or from your work experience. Answer to 2: You don't explicitly need to know the technical details, but...

Foundations of Commercial Law: Practice Areas, Firm Groups and Applications *Monday Article Series*

Business and Management Consultants (e.g. McKinsey, Bain, etc) are involved in two broad phases: (1) strategy (2) execution (e.g. operations). These are separate and at times, overlapping workstreams that lawyers work on (from a legal perspective). They're more commercial, impacting the...

How on earth do some people have 3 TC offers and further Vac Schemes lined up?

I've received multiple TC offers (4) and VS offers (10) (and some rejections). Prior to that, I was rejected from most of the first year schemes from the Magic Circle firms / US firms. I think there are clear things to 'check off', if you want to be a strong applicant in the online application...
