I wouldn’t consider a grade an academic award unless you had been given a high ranking in the cohort (say top three) and acknowledgement of that in some way. Interested to see others opinions on this.
I’m not a recruiter and @Jessica Booker might correct me here but the last two firms I interviewed with included technical questions. These were technical legal questions but quite basic legal knowledge that anyone that had done the GDL or LLB should know. Such as the required elements of a...
Although it’s true the vac scheme is a very new route it is the preferred route. The TC app before was for an open day so effectively a very condensed VS or extended AC. Last cycle was the first time they ran the VS covid massively delayed the 2020 recruitment and it was all moved to 2021.
Getting the interview alone won’t help. But getting/doing the role will - if it’s a legal role it will count as legal work experience and it will have transferable skills involved even if it isn’t legal. But just getting the role alone won’t help if you can’t leverage it in an application and...
Having just got the accounts result and done the exam in Jan I was told there is not negative marking and that mistakes are not carried over so you only lose the mark once.
All MCQs have equal weighting so each question is worth 5 marks despite the fact that some are ‘easier’ than others. It says so on the front of the specimen exam paper.
I wouldn’t put this in work experience as it isn’t work experience, it’s not a job or a voluntary role in any way. I would put this under hobbies, interests or extra curriculars or weave this into a competency question asking about skills either to talk about language skills or work ethic and...
I am aware that some offers have gone out already and that there are also others waiting to hear.
Did you ask in the interview when you are likely to hear the outcome ?
Hey,
keeping up with every bit of news is impossible and I can understand why that would be overwhelming.
I used to listen to posdcasts such as those suggested above when commuting to work, however now I wfh I don’t have that opportunity to fit it into my day.
Instead now I watch the news...
Something that I have found has helped me with the anxiety and stress of ACs is to remind myself that the worst result that can happen from the AC is no TC or VS offer. Which in reality is disappointing but not that awful because my current position at the point of the AC is that I don’t have...
My first paralegal role was a 3 month paid internship straight out my LLB, in-house with a large global telecoms company working on corporate and commercial matters, it would have been extended/continued had I not gone on to do masters in a completely unrelated area of law. I then went straight...
Hey,
In terms of being too old next cycle the answer to that is no. I’m a 2018 graduate, went straight on to a masters I graduated from in 2019 and I’m doing my first VSs this summer. I’m also an older graduate as I was 21 when I started uni so I’m firmly in my late 20s now.
I’ve worked as a...
I would caution away from lying. Being a solicitor is a profession that is bound by ethics including honesty and integrity. Neither of which this would demonstrate. The likelihood of getting caught out might be slim but why risk it.
I am firmly the other side of 25 and closer to 30 and am doing 2 vac schemes this summer. I've previously only applied to direct TC due to work commitments but so many firms especially in the sector I want to go into only hire from VS so thats what I did this cycle and received offers from 2 of...
I would wonder if this might be because they can make more money out of students doing the LPC then doing the SQE2 prep course…
in terms of the LPC personal statement mine was literally three sentences stating I have a scholarship, I intend to qualify as a solicitor and I want to study in...
Yes I would agree that the entire hiring process is better suited to those that knew what they wanted earlier, I feel incredibly behind in AC's for VS's in particular being in my late 20s when so many of the other candidates are second year law students at 19/20. I didn't even start university...
I would disagree that it is elitist - I think its about how you position yourself. I am the guy who could barely find time outside of school or uni because they had to work all week but I answer the hobbies questions by being very honest and saying I am limited to time because of the fact I...
