Hi all

I would like to ask your opinion re training contract applications timings. Some say get all your applications in before Christmas... but then you hear stories of people securing a TC having applied two days before the deadline. What are your views/experiences?

P.S.: I am referring to the 31 July deadlines.

Thank you!

Can confirm it's not necessarily true. I guess it depends on the firm and rolling/non-rolling status. I applied and interviewed for a TC with Reed Smith late in the cycle. The AC was held in July.

The earlier, the better, in my opinion.

On that note, I am going to draw a list of firms that interview after the 31st of July and post it shortly :)

On the top of my head:

1. White & Case - only reviews TC apps after the 31st July deadline (confirmed on GR website/chambers student/open day)
2. Paul Hastings - only reviews TC apps after the 31st July deadline (confirmed on GR website)
3. O'Melveny & Myers - only reviews TC apps after the 31st July deadline (confirmed on GR website)

As you can see, I am still trying to confirm whether the firms with no info beside them ( see above) are rolling or non-rolling, if anyone knows anything, please comment so I can edit the post and include it.

I will update the second round of TC application deadlines by January, I hope this is of assistance to all applicants this cycle :)

I thought Jones Day were only recruiting from vac scheme this year? Perhaps I have misunderstood.
I think you are right. Their application page says the following:

'We expect to recruit our trainees from the pool of candidates who undertake Placement Schemes with us, so will not open separate applications for September 2021 Training Contract positions in June/July 2019. If necessary, we will complete our recruitment for any remaining 2021 Training Contract positions during our 2019/2020 Placement season.'
