tbh I might be wrong but the impression I get from speaking to people is that if you have excellent feedback from the scheme your interview is really relaxed because they essentially know they’re going to take you, if not then it’ll be more comprehensive as they’re trying to get more positives...
Random question, why do law firms hire future trainees as paralegals? Also I want to save money for travelling, do you think being a paralegal for 6 months is doable or do I need to stay for a full 12 months?
I had a call from Kirkland yesterday and they said they got 600 applications for their vac scheme, which is a lot lower than I expected for Kirkland no? especially since other firms are seeing much higher numbers
Well thats the thing, if you work at US firms by the time you’re NQ your friends in IBD won’t even be earning that much more than you (maybe if they’re really good their bonus takes them to £170k but thats upper bound at an elite boutique) and you wouldn’t have had to suffer and sacrifice your...
I think its also because banking hours start very early, law firms expect you to start at 9:30 but in IBD and asset management and stuff you’ll probably be at the office at 6-7am as an analyst and still work until like midnight/1am regularly
Exactly, seems like end of March is way too early to start hosting in person anything...? Also I’m not 100% sure but as far as I’m aware Latham doesn’t even have any group exercises so to get students to come from all over the country for a single hour long interview doesn’t seem sensible. I’m...
Yeah exactly, also not sure how many people they have on their AC but considering they have 40 vac scheme places and 4 ACs then I assume around 15 people per AC, doesnt sound very responsible... anyways, it’ll be my first in person AC!!
Then is a completely random question but why does everyone say that MC firms are having a hard time breaking into the US market when from my perspective they’re doing quite well... CC and linklaters both rank higher than Shearman & Sterling in the Vault rankings for US-wide so are they really...
I normally just spend the day before prepping I’d say. I have the competency answers prepped from beforehand but regarding the technicals and motivational questions I just do them the day before. I found that doing not over preparing meant that I can have a conversation with the interviewer -...
Cleary offers quite a flexible TC too where you have a practice area + supervisor but you can do work from areas outside the one you’re sitting in, and once you qualify you can qualify into multiple practice areas (i think the example they use is an NQ lawyer that is in M&A, capital markets and...
I always have notes on one half of my screen and the zoom call on the other half. Just write them in bullet points and have it in a large font size so its easy to glance as a reminder and you dont have to read
I think thats where CV blind comes in, might be wrong though. If an AC isn’t CV blind like many of mine weren’t, I feel like the partner will have previous thoughts about you that can definitely impact their view of you/excuse any mistakes you make etc. For the most part though I feel that...
