Hiya,
I don't see anything wrong with asking. Some firms won't say as sometimes its not known till later on, but similarly I'm sure there are some firms who will.
I would add though that I also agree with Dheepa; it doesn't really change much regarding interview performance, arguably they are...
Hiya,
I am not that most familiar with Mayer Brown, however I think you could combine both to give greater and more personalised detail to your why MB and why law responses. So almost like a 70/30 split, using your personal experiences and skills as evidence of your specific interests in CL and...
Hiya
Not a silly question at all! From the wording of the question, I think you could incorporate both. I would perhaps lead with my specific interests in the firm, then use my experiences and general motivations to explain why I have these specific interests in particular.
Hope this helps ☺️
Hiya,
I would approach virtual interviews as you would a real interview. So dress in the same way you would if you were going into the office. Not only does this help you look professional, I think it also helps get you into the right state of mind. Personally I don't think you can ever be too...
Hiya,
Congrats on your vacation scheme offer!
In this case, I would just carry on prepping as you did for your initial interview. There is only so much prep you can do for the tc interview ahead of time as a lot of it will be dependent on your experience and performance on the vac scheme. I...
Hiya!
Congrats on your upcoming vac scheme!
I completely agree with both pieces of advice given by Dheepa and Alice.
In my case, my only legal experience was two years prior in non-commercial roles - so I definitely don't think experience is a huge factor. I think vacation schemes are for...
Hi @hannahs
Sorry to hear!
Maybe try to get in contact with grad rec for some feedback. If not, sometimes it might just be an intake preference. In this case, I think it would be worth to just update your application with any new events, skills or experiences you have during the break.
Best...
I think this is dependent on the nature of the questions you have already answered. Perhaps you could use it to explain some of your experiences (legal, uni related, extra-curricular) and subsequent skills in further detail if you were only able to mention this in brief.
Hope this helps :)
Hi @N123
I think this is a great point as I think the focus here is on your understanding of the firm's goals and culture generally. Diversity & Inclusion is a key focal point in the legal industry right now, so it is worth a mention if you personally feel that this is indeed an area the firm...
Hi @rob29
I think this is fine, but I wouldn't depart too much from my why law answer. I think this question is often asked for you to expand on the answer and themes you raised in your application. So I would approach this from an expansive point rather than diverting from your initial...
Hi @Jot Soor
I don't think there is a particular answer they are looking for here. I think questions likes these are to get a feel for your character and personality, so don't feel like you have to put finance and law related hobbies if these aren't your preferred options. Or simply you could...
Sorry to hear @MS2000! It can be so disheartening at times.
Give yourself some time to relax before refocusing. There is light at the end of the tunnel, remember everyone's journey is different❤️
Hi @Jxmxs00
Some of my tips would be:
1 )Have your laptop positioned in a way that allows your camera to be at eye-level. I think this makes the interview feel and look more natural (as natural as it can anyway) rather than you looking 'down' at your interviewers. So I often put my laptop on...
Hiya,
Completely agree with the comments above, my general approach to writing my applications and cover letters is to focus the training contract. I think unless this is explicitly stated in the app that you should address it with specific regard to a vacation scheme, you are on the right...
Hiya!
I agree with everything that's been said. I think I would try not to focus on a specific day to day role as this might come across as a lack of understanding as to the role of a trainee or it might undermine your motivations. I think focusing on ancillary elements e.g. time...
Hi Lauren
I'm far from an expert on this however my approach would be that ultimately law firms are businesses and service providers. Therefore, the focus here would be on clients and how firms try to cater to clients. So I think my focus would be on the current trends and issues that are...
