As someone who is still in the process of my direct app last cycle
I applied in June I think, did a VI around November and then did a telephone interview in Jan, they said it would be a couple of weeks to hear back. I’ve not heard anything, I chased up via the phone and they said VS were...
I guess I was worried they were hoping for something more literal, like something happening at work, or a client having issues opposed to it being more of a personal challenge, but now having reasoned it out I think I was probably overthinking
Tell us about a challenge you have overcome that showcases your ambition and drive.
It's for the Dentons Direct TC app.
I really want to discuss how I have always had a fear of public speaking and at times in the past it has prevented me contributing my ideas when I am in large group...
I personally would avoid being too wrapped up in timings and instead focus on trying to trim down answers so they're not waffly. I think content is more important here than length.
That being said I think 2-3 minutes has been recommended before
From the emails I had received I was informed it would have been by yesterday, although I know they have said they have had lots of very high calibre apps so might just be taking a little longer. It's stressful though since the scheme is supposed to be in a couple of months.
If I'm answering a question regarding a challenge I've overcome, would fear of public speaking be a challenge or are we discussing something more tangible such as performing badly in an A-level and opting to resit?
I really hope it's not the tightest turn around, I work full time and whilst my boss understands I'm applying I'm not sure how kindly they would take to me booking time off super last minute.
i don’t think the poster was suggesting they should I think they were saying there are so many variables, it’s hard for candidates who got the WG to share their magic ingredient. For reference I didn’t go to a Russell group and have got to VI for Bakers twice so I don’t think uni is a major factor
First email post-WG - 26/03 stating we would hear back by the end of the following week.
Second email post-WG - 01/04 - suggested that because there had been so many high-calibre apps the short-listing was taking longer than expected and we should expect to hear back in the next two weeks (that...
I haven't heard from Orrick since WG - submitted by WG on 22/03. They're most recent email suggested we'd hear back before the end of this week but then again, they've said that before then postponed so not entirely sure.
I personally prefer listening to podcasts I listen to the FTpodcast followed by Watsons Daily every morning.
I would also always recommend creating a list of anything I’m confused by or interested in and then I find podcasts of videos on that topic.
Another piece of advice that was so helpful...
Yeah I must admit they've been excellent in my opinion - I am aware some people did not have the best experience last cycle with them - that being said the deadline for my WG was 23rd - and on the 26th I had a follow up email managing my expectations and explaining I should hear back by the end...
Really understanding what each part requires!! I don't think you can do well unless you understand what skill each section is discussing.
Secondly practising - I think you will pick up on subtle things for example in assumptions I only realised through practising that saying someone needs to do...
Bakers reviews applications in the order they receive them however they do not invite applicants on a rolling basis. It is still advantageous if you have submitted earlier as your application will be one of the first they read and less likely to be rejected due to numbers. They are still rolling.
