(Not sure why I posted a similar reply twice on this thread above......)
By the way, for the very few who go to a few of the bigger City firms this might be useful https://www.slaughterandmay.com/media/s1salpk3/bppde-06347_law_city-consortium-graduate-flyer_may-2020_v4.pdf and seems to be...
I know someone involved in a city firm recruitment who says that firm is very keen exams are all done before the 2 years of training for their future "trainees" once SQE is in place so it would be much the same as now - training course for SQE and then SQE1 exams then the same for QE2 and if you...
I have a connection in a city firm who says they are very very keen their future "trainees" get all exams passed including SQE2 before starting the 2 years of training and they do not want it to be like accountants (working whilst exams to be done). So I suspect for those firms who feel the same...
Yes, it's fine but remember BPP have out of London centres - one of my children is at one although will be London (technically although if it is all online these location issues are weird - cheaper fees but rent to pay for us if out of London - so more expensive and in London - no rent to pay as...
I think it is quite hard and no advantage to doing it unless you want a student loan to cover some (not all) of your LPC fees. I would avoid it if you can unless you need the student loan.
That is what I thought. It would not surprise me if the SRA website were wrong then which I quote above. One one issue I had to email them and they took a month or two to reply and before I had the formal reply were not sure (on a different issue on timing). The quote above though says if you...
So it sounds like your original degree in criminal law at Leeds did not cover you for the legal subjects you need for the bar so you are having to do the PGDL as you did not cover subjects like contract, tort etc during your first degree?
As said above both are just a means to an end...
I hope someone knows the answer to this. I had been saying you choose the existing route ( GDL/LPC/TC) or from next year the SQE route and you cannot mix the two.
I was therefore very surprised to see this on the SRA website dated October 2020. It says if you have done the LPC you can then...
If you have found funding as you describe then would that cover you doing the full time LPC without doing as much work or doing less work at the same place you are working as a para legal? If so I would do it full time and gt it over with. Also will the firm where you are a para legal let you...
Yes, there are serious concerns about whether SQE QWE will place newly qualified in as good a position and indeed whether they will be safe to advise clients compared with a training contract. On QWE I know an in house solicitor who signed off QWE for a trainee who did the 2 years TC whilst...
Hopefully someone better qualified can advise you but you passed. Isn't that okay? At least you have passed those 2 subjects. Better than failing and in a few years time no one will be interested in or even know your GDL marks.
PDGL first week was a bit chaotic - some workshops could not split into the planned very small groups due to lack of bandwidth, not that that really matters. Materials for week 1 had to be emailed as pdfs which actually made it easier to print them off rather than your having to hunt for them on...
I should not be on the thread as I am a parent (and lawyer), not a student, but I have 2 children starting the PDGL full time next week so have a bit of a vested interest. One child who is living at home during the PGDL said that yesterday he saw on the Hub that everyone who had not been...
There are lots of ways and it will vary from firm to firm. Some respond to public bids for Government and other state work advertised under public procurement law. Others follow similar tendering processes for non state body clients who want to use a similar system. Mostly however it can be...
