Agreed. I think it also feels like we must have impressive answers for competency questions because the process is so competitive. I'm lucky enough to have a few years of work under my belt so I can draw on real examples for 90% of questions, but do wonder how second year university students are...
I wonder this too. My dream firm is anywhere that will give me a TC and pays £80k+ NQ. There are obviously firms I think align slightly more with my career goals but can't fathom what makes something someone's dream firm without an idea of what the culture is actually like.
I don't know, I sort of love when it's obvious that everyone is so stressed about hearing back and interviews and ACs that we devolve into "are Ferrari and Tesla competitors" chat. Slightly more interesting than endless "have u heard from withers".
Sort of agree, sort of disagree. My partner (romantic) is the right hand of a partner (business) at a Big 4 who dropped out part way through a degree at what was then a poly but obviously now is making silly money. These days that would be nigh impossible because the partner wouldn't even have...
I had mine this morning. It's standard competencies and motivation with nothing to catch you out so as long as you know your examples inside out you'll be fine - the person that I spoke to was very lovely for what it's worth!
Re-reading the application I sent to a firm in preparation for an interview, somehow wrote that I was interested in their private wealth team when I know the firm doesn't actually do any private wealth work. It was a passing mention amongst other areas they do practice in, but any suggestions...
Early Jan for summer! I didn't realise they ran a spring but hopefully if they're getting to the stage where they're giving out places for spring they'll deal with summer soon :)
I agree that it wouldn't be surprising if there have been interviews based on the info on the website - it used to say that they review and schedule as applications come in but I'm unsure if they've changed it. I only asked because every "have u heard from withers" post here always has a bunch...
Where did you hear that? I know the forum isn't the be all/end all but it seems a lot of us applied there and I haven't seen anybody talk about hearing back post-test yet.
A bit of both - I found it helpful to try and anticipate them by thinking about the sort of info given in the tasks. Either way prep time is 3 mins, 2 mins to answer so quite generous if you're prepared.
It's a pretty standard/short SJT but be prepared for more VI questions than you might expect! Every time I clicked a new section and saw it needed video responses I died a little.
Me too, but I just reread my app and I'm not surprised - my written answers were somehow so weak compared to other applications I've made. Obviously didn't actually want it that much! 🙃
Beside which, it all broadly feels like nonsense anyway. I’ve had so many conflicting reports this cycle (Withers think adaptability is one of my strongest traits, Shoosmiths think it’s my weakest, Stephenson Harwood thinks my applied intellect is both very good and poor) that I think they send...
I don't suppose either of you have been given a date/time? "Shortly" seems like a very vague (and subjective) measure of time but I don't want to harass grad rec if they haven't sent that info out to anyone yet!
