Hi again Jessica,
So I was speaking to a graduate recruiter about an in tray assessment I am going to be taking relatively soon. I haven't seen the content yet but have been told it involves drafting a letter to a client and an internal memo to the firm on the same subject, and that the markers...
This is going to sound like a dumb question, but it occurred to me recently that I only have a very vague idea of how it all works.
For commercial firms, I understand reputation within the directories and pitching for positions on the legal panels of companies is important, but how does this...
Yes, it is. Which I think was probably a poor decision given everything that subsequently happened, but I don't think anyone could have predicted a global pandemic! I applied I think in mid november last year.
Hi Jessica,
I interviewed at a firm last week and was rejected yesterday. In the rejection letter they said that the quality of candidates was so good that they added an extra TC place, but would inevitably have to disappoint some people, and as a result, would not give any feedback at all on...
I was just invited to Macs' virtual AC today. I've never done a virtual interview before so not really sure what to make of it.
I've had a look on the interview experiences page to get a feel for what might come up but does anyone have any extra tips or experiences they would be willing to...
Hi Jessica,
I've been invited to interview at a mid-size/smaller private client firm next week. Unlike with many city firms, there isn't a lot online about them from a training perspective and I cannot find any records online about their interview process e.g. on the TCLA website or Glassdoor...
Hi guys,
I have a WG test coming up in a few days and haven't practiced any since quite early on in the year as I had to change my focus from law apps to uni work.
I've never been amazing at the tests, as I have a slight learning disability. I think the highest score I ever got was in the 70s...
This is exactly the sort of advice I was looking for - thanks both. I've found two associates who work in different practice areas at the firm who both went to my university (although I don't think they trained at the firm). What I'm really aiming to ask about is what they enjoy about the firm's...
Hi guys,
I'm currently debating whether or not to reach out to a few associates at a firm I'm currently writing an application for on LinkedIn. I didn't meet this firm at any open days, law fairs or networking events, and I think it would be a good way to show that I've made efforts to research...
Yikes. That doesn't sound good. I only chose to apply direct TC because on its recruitment literature TS said in practice it did not differentiate between VS and direct TC applicants and I just wanted to get on with it! Thanks for the heads up though!
Thanks for this. I've discovered that someone has interviewed there before and its on the interview page of the TCLA website, so I've been looking at that. They didn't ask the interviewee any competency questions beyond how the firm differentiates itself, but I'm determined to prepare anyway...
Has anyone who applied direct for a TC heard anything from Macfarlanes or Travers Smith? I applied sometime late last year for both and other than an email from TS saying 'we are still considering your application' I haven't heard anything.
Hi guys,
I have had two telephone interviews this cycle at really good US firms and despite me thinking they both went well, they didn't and I got rejected.
By some miracle I've managed to get a third telephone interview at a much less well known (but no less valid) national firm in their...
I applied for their vac scheme. I met Matthieu at a careers dinner at my university and he strongly advised everyone attending to apply for a vac scheme as that is the way they recruit 90% of their trainees.
Thanks - yeah I think it went ok. I just worry that although I linked the story back to...
Just had my interview today! Think it went ok, maybe could have done better on answering the commercial question at the end but I'm pretty happy with it!
For anyone that's in that situation, they are also possibly offering 2021 TCs for anyone who is interested in starting a little earlier than...
