    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi Jessica. Since many winter vac schemes run during the term time, does that mean they are mostly off-limits to international students on Tier 4 visa which only allows 20 working hours during term time? Do you happen to know ways for international students to participate in these schemes? Thank...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi Jessica. When a firm asks if you require permission to the work in the UK in a vacation scheme application, are they referring to whether you need sponsorship for your training contract or just for the duration of the vacation scheme? Furthermore if one does not need sponsorship during the...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi Jessica, I hope you are doing well. I have a question about the culture of law firms. During an interview, the interviewer told me that the trainees often voluntarily stay late or share the workload if they see their co-workers struggling because they believe in going the extra mile to help...

    Linklaters

They are split into different sections. Each section involves a different scenario (sometimes a different transaction or deal), and questions arising from that. Most of the questions are situational-based where you have to rank your preferred course of action when encountering a problem (e.g...

    Interview/Open Day/Vacation Scheme Updates- Coronavirus

For firms that are offering vacation schemers places on their winter schemes instead, does anyone know if the applicants will still be assessed for a 2022 TC or will it be 2023 instead?

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

It might be too soon to tell but from your experience, how do you think law firms will respond to this? Will firms take into consideration the different examination methods and policies across universities when assessing applications? I'm curious to know whether these information are easily...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

From the correspondence with my course director, that appears to be the case. (The condition being the individual must at least pass the module for the policy to apply). A few of us strongly disagree with this policy for a whole number of reasons but most people love it.

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

We might be paranoid but some of us fear how law firms might perceive the value our grades if they find out about this policy so I guess we just want the opportunity to clarify that our marks on the transcript are NOT our baseline marks?

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

With regards to the 'no detriment' policy, my university has done things quite differently from what you have mentioned. For us, each student will first receive a 'baseline' grade calculated from the average of our semester 1 modules and exams sat from the previous years. Any module grade that...

    Ask Jaysen (TCLA's Founder) Anything!

Hi Jaysen, Thanks for making the thread. This is not really an application question but I’m quite curious about what incentivised you to leave Weil and start this website. How much did your experience at the firm contribute to the decision and in your opinion, what factors should an applicant...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

I’m wondering the same thing. I’m currently drafting my Travers Smith cover letter and I remember at the TS event, the recruitment partner actually encouraged a little humour in the cover letters because it apparently makes them stand out - he even gave examples of how some current trainees...

I completed the first interview early this year and I'm now referring to the actual assessment centre.

Received a call from Dentons re postponed AC. Was offered the choice to either partake in a virtual AC for a vac scheme this year (likely to also be virtual over the length of 3-4 days), or have my application deferred and get fast-tracked to an AC early next year.

Oh yes, I forgot to link them. The free test from them is fine, I didn't find them to be more useful than the others though. Also, I think the questions from the actual WG tests tend to get recycled a lot between firms - for my latest WG, I only encountered one new set of questions! This might...

I feel like WG mainly tests the way you think and process information, so getting the technique down is more important. Whilst practice definitely helps, there are enough free resources online for you to do that. Firms certainly won't be expecting all their candidates to pay for practice tests.

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

TCLA has a few pages detailing what the telephone (I am pretty sure this is the first round HR interview for ppl who can't travel to the firm but I could be wrong) entails which I personally found to be very helpful. Glassdoor also has a lot of materials and past interview questions. It is a...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi Jessica, With so many universities moving their assessments to either coursework or online exams, do you think it could potentially undermine the value of our grades, especially when it comes to exceptionally high marks? For example, when presented with a grade that is in the high 70s or...
