TCLA General Discussion Thread #2 (2021)

Ah this is quite key. So if you haven't done the LPC, I would say enthusiasm is the main thing and making good use of practical law as well as the database of precedents and draft contracts on your firm's intranet. After all, if you haven't learnt the key professional practice stuff that you get...

Have you done the GDL/LLB or LPC yet?

Browne Jacobson Telephone interview! Also, just had my feedback call from Trowers & Hamlins, who told me that they only had 20 spaces for their VS and I was 21st on their list by the amount of points I scored....gutted. Just another lesson that even if you do the best you can, ultimately the...

I also agree with this! Maybe it wouldn't work for everyone but I find injecting a bit of personality into interviews makes them go better as it humanises you and makes you stand out a bit from other candidates who mostly give more cookie cutter answers. I like to make my examples slightly funny...

TCLA General Discussion Thread #2 (2021)

What I've found is that most law firm questions, while different, tend to cover the same basic themes. It's not uncommon to go to a few interviews and realise that they have asked you for the same thing as the other firm, but in a slightly different way. The best way to prepare for this is to...

Very impressive stuff. I have chosen to take the opposite approach, by running away from my problems. Quite literally. I like to destress by getting up very early, and making the most of the extra sunlight and lack of people about to enjoy a nice long run, usually between about 8-12k. I also...

This is so useful for me, particularly the stuff on written assessments, as my incoming Summer VS has no exit interview and is pretty much entirely assessed on the work I produce and whether I'm a good cultural fit. I'm absolutely going to keep your points in mind!

It's natural to be worried, but you've done really well to get one at all, especially in this cycle, which has been very tough for a lot of us. I'm in the same boat that you are with just one VS (although I'm lucky to still have outstanding interviews for a VS as well as two direct TCs coming...

Family and Employment lawyers are absolutely cleaning it up right now. Sanctions law is also becoming a very hot topic as they have become the US, UK and EU's weapon of choice for punishing people, companies and governments that do things they don't like.

2020-21 Direct Training Contract Applications Discussion

I haven't applied but got through to their Direct TC AC last year, after applying sometime in mid-November 2019. I didn't receive my invite until August 2020, and a friend of mine who did the year before didn't get a response until late July. You've got plenty of time so focus on some other...

You should put this information down, yes. It will show that you are a successful and competitive candidate and don't need to apply to the firm you are applying for, but have chosen to anyway.

    ULaw or BPP for LPC?

I'm at ULaw's LPC right now. Very professional set up. Obviously, paying all this money and not having in-person teaching has been inconvenient but I think they have tried their best with the take home exam software, which works and hasn't been terrible. I strongly rate the careers service, but...

TCLA General Discussion Thread #2 (2021)

I've been reading about this. Only time will tell how successful this listing will be. But personally, I think it is a very short term decision which is going to put the financial interests of the current partners ahead of the rest of the firm. No other listed law firm has done that well...

After their vacation scheme? That seems a little unlikely. Do you mean their TC?

That is a fascinating insight, thanks! Very much ties in with my own interests, which are that it is very litigious (I love me some court time) and also varied in who/what you're dealing with (could be phd engineers all the way to tradies working on anything from middle eastern oil refineries to...

TCLA General Discussion Thread #2 (2021)

What interests you about construction law, if you don't mind me asking? I've got an interview with a construction-specialist law firm coming up in about two weeks and I shamelessly just want to see some different perspectives to my own so that I can sell my interest in them a bit better.

TCLA General Discussion Thread #2 (2021)

I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm sure it is a trend. I'm positive I read an article about it once. People have had to start coming up with new ways of making their brand seem distinctive because with hundreds of thousands of companies in existence it is unlikely that calling...
