- In an application, when a firm asks ‘have you ever had to resit an exam’ - is this referring to all the exams I’ve ever done or just at degree level. Asking this because in my school it was quite common to have a few sits at exams especially at GCSE...
Do you think firms will also run the traditional TC alongside this for those candidates who have already done GDL and LPC to save them from having to sit the SQE?
So in terms of flexibility, would you say the SQE reduces the flexibility that is available with a traditional TC as it’s not as beneficial for those who are uncertain what area of law they want to go to (likely to be a significant pool of candidates as many will be from non law backgrounds...
Also quite interesting to see firms recruiting additional trainees at a time when others are cutting down on numbers/delaying start dates due to a lack of work for trainees.

Compared to other US firms (that hire exclusively from VSs) I would say they do. But compared to non US firms they have more of a tendency to recruit from vac schemes.
Interestingly, Latham had recently advertised a TC for 2020 start.
Sidley is another firm I’ve seen currently recruiting for...
I guess the logic behind offering a virtual scheme to those who receive a TC offer is that they can get an insight into the firm and its culture (albeit a limited one), to help them decide whether to accept the TC or not.
Logistically this would be very difficult as I’m guessing they must have had well over 1,000 applicants, so likely not all would have got through to VI!
