Well it was April/May last year when I got mine so I couldn't go out. I called the Senior Private Client Solicitor at my firm who's like a mentor to me. His response was 'What's a Vacation Scheme?'. How times have changed!
I think it's a test of motivation, but forum please correct me if I'm wrong. I think they're looking to see that you've applied to similar firms in terms of size, culture, work, practice areas etc. I don't think firms are jealous if you apply elsewhere as they understand that candidates have...

Also, what is an analytical written exercise and what is being tested? I've had several assessment centres etc and have never had this come up before?

So far I have to say this has been a pretty smooth application process (I am touching a lot of wood here)! Gemma's been on the ball, marketed the scheme extremely well and there's a slot for me to do this written exercise after work.
Now I just need a desk... :(
Even a simple desk is essential. Now I've just gotta wait a week for a desk to arrive I ordered elsewhere.
Had to cancel an IKEA delivery after they said must would arrive 6-7 weeks' time (y'all don't order from IKEA, their customer service is two pack of a$$).
