    LPC Application strategy

Following on from what @shannontongg said yesterday, regarding the GDL, I had a place at both U Law and BPP. BPP rang me to offer a discount (they said this was related to my academic prowess but I didn't quite buy it) and I couldn't take the call (I was working), so they emailed it. A week or...

TCLA General Discussion Thread 2021-22 (#1)

I spoke with GR from Norton Rose Fulbright this week as they do one. It's a six-year apprenticeship; the GR told me that they recruit for it in the same way as their TC, ie form, Watson Glaser, AC. It's not necessarily aimed at grads but they will consider them. They send the apprentices off to...

Advice needed on SQE and career in general

They do - it's a diversity initiative and includes mentoring opportunities as well. It's a terrific opportunity for people who might not otherwise be able to thrive. If anyone reading this is considering their options and know they've really had to cross some oceans to get to this point, the...

    TC Application Writing Group

I won't spam everyone with reminders about the Saturday FlowHuddle but this is the email re tomorrow (Saturday) if anyone fancies. And, btw, you can do ANYTHING in the two hours, no need for it to be related to law/careers/applications etc. I will be there, barring unforeseen events of any...

Bad A Levels - will this stop me obtaining a Training Contract

Another thing I failed to pick up on: you are already doing the LPC. I have seen some phenomenally high grades for the LPC - literally in the 90s, things I haven't had since I was about 12; certainly way above the marks on the GDL/undergrad courses (other than unbelievable results given to...

Bad A Levels - will this stop me obtaining a Training Contract

If you don't know Law vlogger Chrissie Wolfe, you may be inspired to read these posts about her. One includes a link to the YouTube video where she discusses her A-levels, at grades CDEE. She's had around a decade at Irwin Mitchell and recently has taken a step back to build a career as a legal...

    TC Application Writing Group

It was really well-run by @Adrian_S in spite of life pressures. There is now a private chat ongoing where there will be some more activity. The thoughts are to split into subgroups and start being accountable, sending drafts between participants. No reason you can't be added but it's probably...

TCLA General Discussion Thread 2021-22 (#1)

Just very quickly, they are trying to see that (1) you have thought this through (2) you do actually have some transferable skills and (3) you would be a good bet to sponsor. So you need to identify the key skills needed for success as (a) a lawyer and (b) a career changer into law. You need to...

    TC Application Writing Group

Hi @Adrian_S, and @S87, this is a really great initiative. I'd be up for taking part too, depending on the timing. In case anyone is interested, Idin from Little Law has been running Saturday 11-1 'FlowHuddle' sessions, where just a small group of people turn up, state an aim for the two hours...

Vacation Scheme Didn't Work Out? Things You Should Consider About Making Direct TC Applications

This is more general (VS and direct) and has some additional firms who are still recruiting; I've found it helpful: https://www.chambersstudent.co.uk/law-firms/getting-a-training-contract/application-and-selection-criteria

Help buying/choosing professional clothing (especially for women)

All the advice above is excellent, and I'd encourage you to remember the 'armour' quality of good clothing too. There is a ton of evidence around how both (1) people respond to visual cues/presence and (2) how much clothes can give you confidence. You said it yourself, this is your first formal...

Remote / Campus Studying for GDPL?

Honestly, I'd just ask as much as you can from their sales team too. They won't be trying to sell you a product that will make you unhappy. It might not deliver on all fronts but they have a duty to be honest about the time commitment, logistics etc - or to put you in touch with someone who can.

Remote / Campus Studying for GDPL?

Hi hi - I can't answer about the hybrid option from experience, but I did do the GDL (the predecessor of the PGDL) in person at U Law Moorgate. I'd been offered a place at BPP as well (getting on the course didn't seem to be a problem) but was really pleased with my choice. I felt that some of...

No idea where to begin! Help !

I am a non-law grad career changer. I did the GDL and it's enabled me to work as a paralegal, though honestly, I feel I could have done the work without the qualification (I just wouldn't have been offered it). My point is that with a solid career behind you, the transition won't be as tricky as...
