Hey all!
I've just posted a short guide on buying and wearing men's formalwear (suits etc) for vac schemes, interviews etc with law firms after a really interesting discussion over the last couple of weeks surrounding female clothing options led by @AspiringSol
As much as I've joked about...
Introduction
After a great recent discussion about women’s clothes options for vacation schemes, I was reminded of some of the challenges I had when I was first building up a wardrobe of formalwear, both in terms of finding clothing options at an accessible price and actually putting together...
Congratulations on your TC offer! I agree with Jess' advice here that asking is generally harmless; in some cases a smaller firm may actually have more flexibility than larger firms who have set annual or biannual intakes.
It could also be the case that you're in your own head and overthinking it. Try to strip it back and just go with your gut instinct: a lot of the time that will be correct.
Sorry it took me ages to respond to this!
I substantively agree with Jess here. I think if it's something you genuinely find interesting then the best bet is to be authentic: why are you interested in the strategy? Why do you think it's a good thing? Are you particularly interested in a certain...
Companies only pay corporation tax, not capital gains, so I don't think this is likely to be particularly relevant for firms unless they have a substantial private client practice and you're discussing that extensively already.
I thinknit depends a lot on the context of the question you're answering or preparing for. Can you give us more information on this front so we can dive into it a bit more?
Yeah that's a fair point.
The summer can often be grim for wearing a suit too as I think the general view is that linen is too casual for the office! Shirts can also be remarkably warm too, because I have both my arms and my back heavily tattooed I need to wear either a plain tshirt under my...
Gotta say, I think us guys have an easier time than women when it comes to this stuff 😂
Cap toe Oxfords, suit with or without tie and we're off to the races! Haha
Being brutally honest, I think this would count against you unless it was a competition of major note - it could be perceived as being unable to prioritise correctly in the eyes if the firm (rightly or wrongly!) so, unless it's a super super important competition I would probably drop it...
How is everyone this evening? Anyone doing anything nice? I'm doing my 'due diligence' on a local pub near my new flat!
It's lovely to be back in places now they've started to open up again. Have you guys been back to your favourites or exploring new venues since restrictions
I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. There isn't an astonishing amount you can do to prep for a vac scheme - certainly nothing that can't be done closer to the time.
If I were you I would set that to the back of your mind, focus on the here and now and then address vac scheme prep 48-72...
Yeah I agree with @FM302989 - I don't think there's a personal element to this.
If you're considering something from the perspective of a personal experience, it's really important to discuss something you've been materially involved in or affected by - attending a WD session as the 'origin...
This is a great feeling! I submitted my final assessment last week and I'm beginning to settle into my new house in London, pretty much blocked out June to chill out before I start work in July!
It's about the first time in 4/5 years where I've taken more than like 2 days at a time to actually...
I think the debt issue from Amazon is really interesting here.
As mentioned in the article, this is the second-largest debt issue this year... especially when Amazon are sitting on so much cash, this does seem like a really unusual decision.
I agree with the position that taking advantage of...
