Hi everyone,

I'm interested to hear what everyone is doing to prep for the next recruitment cycle. How many firms are people applying for and how do you narrow down the firms you're interested in?

I'm personally going to aim for 10 next year (for the vac schemes at least) & trying to target 'friendly', full-service law firms which have an element of international work (and ideally, international offices also).

Hi,

I am planning to apply to 10-12 firms. Silver circle mostly, and I have narrowed based on their practise area expertise. For eg I am not interested in firms that specialise in immigration, private clients etc. I am leaning to firms with international reach as well, as I have gained international work experience. I am also going to do the forage internships of the firms I plan to apply to (when work is light). Test prep wise I plan to buy jobtestprep packs rn and start practising because my percentile was off by 10% last year. SJTs were fine.

Hiya! I'm planning to apply to 9 this cycle (a big jump from the 3 last time!). Most of the firms on my list are US but I've narrowed them down based on practice area and international offices/secondment opportunities.

Forage is a good idea so I may try a couple of those as well.

Thanks for sharing! I've been practising the jobtestprep packs and not going to lie, I'm still struggling with WG (though that might just be me!). The variety of firms you're planning to apply to sounds interesting

I also only applied to around 2/3 last time so I definitely need to amp it up. Nice - good luck with your apps!

Hey,

I'm interested in applying to the same sorts of firms -- would you mind PMing me some of the firms you've been looking at? So far I'm struggling to get a shortlist down.

Hello,

This will be my first cycle so I am a bit nervous, but I keep telling myself "whatever you don't try you definitely won't get". I'm currently also in the process of narrowing down which firms are right for me, and have similar rationale for my decision-making. As well as targeting firms which operate internationally, I'm planning on honing in on certain sectors which seem especially interesting, mainly projects, transportation, and competition and antitrust.
I've found that through reading the Financial Times and other online newspapers, these are the topics which I get drawn in by. I'd say just read around, you'll see what you find interesting!
Am also aiming for 10, but I might be being a bit optimistic with that...
