Amazing! 3 applications in September is fantastic. Keep going—when I was on my Nth application cycle, I remember telling myself that movement is better than perfection. It's not an easy process at all, but the community assistants are here to help with any questions you might have. You've got this! 🫶

    Application update:

1 - Sidley Austin vac scheme - rejected post app
2 - Herbert Smith Freehills vac scheme - rejected post-test
3 - A&O Shearman - AC (awaiting response, sick to my stomach with nerves)
4 - Ashurst - awaiting response post app and test.
5 - Hogan Lovells - awaiting WG test, sent app

    Preparing apps:
6 - Baker McKenzie (has been reviewed by TCLA)
7 - Skadden (to be completed and sent to TCLA for review)
9 - Clifford Chance (basic idea of what I am going to write)

The AC was tough, and because of the anxiety, I am checking my emails every 5 minutes. They said they would get back to us this week. Is the fact that I haven't heard back a bad sign?

Last year, I didn't hear back for 3 weeks and on the next Monday I got a rejection. With each passing day, I lose more hope (not that it went well enough for me to have hope anyway).

I'm also waiting for A&O post-AC, let's hope tomorrow is the day. Good luck to you

    Monday 11 Nov Update:

Baker McKenzie submitted it last week.
Ashurst rejection came last week - not surprised, that test was awfully hard.
Skadden has been reviewed and will be finalised this week.
Clifford Chance drafted, yet to be cleaned up.
Latham research is on the to-do list for this week.

I drafted the CC app response pretty quickly, to the point that I am suspicious of it. It usually takes me a week, whereas this time it was maybe two days of dedicated writing.

    7 Dec update:

Barely here but here nonetheless. Honestly, I can't even imagine getting a tc anymore. This is my third application cycle, and while I am doing all I can and I know I have made progress etc etc but I can't imagine making it out of this process. I will keep going because I really want this. But oh the horrors.

    Clifford Chance rejection.
    - Not at all surprised. They are super consistent lol. I am not really upset about this. I've just come to terms with the fact there is something about my application they do not like.

    Willkie submitted.
    - I realised I could've spoken about the Mastercard case too late. But it is what it is. I hope the rest of my answer was specific enough.

Latham Watkins submitted just online assessment left.
    - I just realised there is a video interview question in their online assessment and that sent shivers down my spine. Going to spend my evening researching the toughest questions I would hate to come up against: trends in law, big case we've worked on, why do clients choose us. I really hope its some easy competency or strengths question. I am not the strongest soldier.

Then, tomorrow morning, I will start/finish the online assessment. The amount of fear a video interview sends through me is not normal.

I wonder if part of the trick is just the way I deliver the answer; maybe if I focus on managing appearance and time, they could potentially overlook a basic answer? Who knows.

    Reed Smith
    - Started but then momentarily paused. I think I am going to focus on White & Case and Paul Weiss. I want to have Paul Weiss reviewed by TCLA so I am focusing on Paul Weiss.

I should have submitted more apps, but I got sick for a week, and then the winter blues came with a side of 'you will never be successful', so as you can imagine, I was a little down. But with the horrors, there are joys, and I truly feel lucky to have a passion worth fighting for. I can't believe it's corporate law, but alas, it is.

Remember guys, all you need is just one yes. Maybe the next app is the one.

I need to work on my video interview skills since they are so widely used...

Is the WIllkie VI automatic or is there some screening process before? I just received an invitation to VI and I am wondering if this means my application was good? But I did also submit the application on Saturday, they could not have looked at it so quickly.

Also, Baker McKs test !! I did the test last year and was unsuccessful. I am going to read over the feedback report and try to improve. I am a little nervous about the fact if I do well on the test, the next step is a ...video interview ...

I find video interviews scarier than ACs.

Hi @justkeepswimming - I reviewed lots of applications yesterday, including some of those that have come in over the last week. The application process takes place in four stages, and no part of the process is automated. You have to be successful at each stage to reach the next. Here are the details:

Our application process takes place in four stages. Please note only those successful at each stage go forward to the subsequent stage:

    • Online application form;
    • Video interview;
    • Written analytical exercise: to ensure fairness, the written exercise is marked by at least two different people (associates/partners) from Willkie’s London office. Neither ‘marker’ would have seen, and will not see, any applications or video interviews and each exercise is marked on a name-blind basis; and
    • CV-blind interview with partners and/or senior associates: our interviews are conducted on a CV-blind basis.
