Macfarlanes Assessment Centre

I have one with Macfarlanes as well. The structure is going to be something along the lines of a group task which will most likely be a negotiation, a case study with follow up questions, a written exercise and an interview with a partner. I'm trying to do as many mock interviews as possible, along with practicing the case studies that I can find, and keeping up to date with commercial awareness and knowing legal terms so I will potentially have some background for the case study/ negotiation exercise. That's so good that you were able to get a later date, mine is next week.

Thanks! I've seen a case study on here that was pretty good it was for an m&a deal but I believe they're giving us a business case study? So might not be the same but good practice in any case I would definitely recommend. Let me know where you find your case study materials! Best of luck for the assessment centre hope it goes well :)

Look up case study 1 and case 2 for TCLA. Those were the good examples I’ve found. I’ve also come across some case studies that are quite technical but I don’t think this will be the case because ACs have in mind people who don’t study law or even business. I have even asked ChatGPT to generate some written exercise questions and I prompted it to come up with its own materials. Whilst it won’t be as developed as the materials we will get in the AC I think it is a really helpful exercise. My main aim is to become confident in my ability to write letters and reports. Do you think it will be hand-written or typed?

Thanks so much! I'll definitely look those up and ask Chat GPT about it too. I just talked to someone from Macfarlanes and they told me it would all be a typed written exercise, but the written exercise study and business case study materials they will give in printed or digital form. All the sections of the assessment day are separate from one another as well is what she told me. Sounds good about the writing, same!

They also said it includes a simple numerical calculation part that does not require a calculator but you have to work out some sums and put values in a table on a laptop. The whole written exercise is 30 mins including reading and writing!

I have heard this as well! I think it could even be things like percentage increase/decrease or like division and multiplication. It shouldn’t be more advanced than that hopefully. I wonder what type of question it would be if we’re putting values in a table. Also if it’s half an hour then I don’t think there would be much reading materials

How do you feel it went? Best of luck on the outcome and well done for doing it!
