Hi all! So grateful to be one of the lucky 10 who is able to benefit from the TCLA Silver Scholarship (- thanks Jaysen!). Just by way of intro, I've recently finished my LPC and I am currently applying for vac schemes/training contracts. Applications are doing better this year: while I've got rejected from some firms, I've also progressed to some next stages too. Hoping this year is our year! I've got the CMS assessment centre next week so will be using TCLA's fabulous resources to prepare.

Yes, I'd highly recommend Arun's From TCLA to TC course, particularly his section on mindset and procedural/substantive commercial awareness. I'd then check out the assessment centre section of our Becoming an Exceptional Candidate course.

@Jaysen, thanks ever so much for that. This is soo useful, I'll check out the threads you listed too. Also, I noticed that I can book a mock interview with TCLA. Only problem is that my interview next week involves both case study AND motivational/competency-based questions. The TCLA mock interview only allows me to select one type of mock interview. Any chance I could do a combination of both in the 1 hour, please?

Thanks a lot @Jaysen. I booked the case study mock because I've not got any experience with that so thought I might need the full hour. Any chance I can book a standard mock interview on a separate day (to cover the competency-based questions) or can we only choose 1?

I'm Elsa and I am a second year law student at KCL. I would like to apply to vacation schemes at commercial law firms to see whether this would be a career I wish to lead, as I now have a criminology/ criminal law focus and I am really enjoying it! I was thinking of going into White Collar Crime , or Regulatory Compliance and Investigation, maybe even Tax. I have also been accepted to a yearly program next year (which is an add on to my original 3 years of LLB) at the CTLS center in London ( a program run by Georgetown Law and KCL), so I will be graduating with a degree specialising in Transnational legal studies, which hopefully will appeal to global law firms ! I also like weightlifting , hiking and chess ( The latter being my weakest skill I'm afraid). Lovely to meet you, and best of luck on your Journey !

Hey Elsa! Lovely to meet you! Congratulations to you too for getting the Silver Subscription. It's been so handy for me already and I'm sure we'll benefit so much from the resources!

White Collar Crime is interesting - good choice! I'm quite open to different areas, though I've got a particular interest in the sectors of technology, energy and real estate. What's that yearly programme about, is it a whole another degree?

I'm bad at chess, haha! I like going to the gym (sad that lockdown has disrupted my routine), travelling (sad again) and watching TV shows!

Been offered a place on the CMS Academy 2021 (vac scheme)!! TCLA has been great - couldn't have done it without Arun's help during the case study mock interview. I'm grateful that I was able to book the session and access the resources for FREE because of the Silver Scholarship! Yay!

Thought I was going to make some more direct TC applications but I think I’m exhausted for now, esp with working FT! I’ll probably use the time instead to prepare for my vac scheme. Is anyone else thinking of applying for direct TCs?

I want to treat this like a diary, so thought I'd write an update on my journey so far.

Just finished the vac scheme with Osborne Clarke. I imagine the in-person experience is very different to the virtual one. I did it virtually. Attended lots of presentations and gained an insight into the firm. Also had to complete some corporate exercises. OC's a great firm to work at. Final interview is next week!

Currently on the CMS vac scheme. A fantastic firm to be working at. It runs less like an assessed vacation scheme and more like an 'academy' that's focused on developing candidates' business acumen. A unique 2 weeks. No final interview, so we're just being assessed throughout. Week 2 tomorrow!

OC interview went well - I had to give a 5-minute presentation and then it was a quick Q&A. Interviewed for another 30 minutes. Lovely people, I was interviewed by a partner and a member from the grad recruitment team. I'm due to hear back from the firm next week.

CMS vac scheme has now ended. No final interview. The firm promised us they'd give us a call today, so I'm now anxiously waiting beside my phone! #nervous
