How would anyone handle this interview question - tell us about a time you compromised your views.

It seems to be about ethics and integrity but the wording is slightly odd...

What is the best way to structure an answer to this?

To me your views don’t necessarily need to be tied to integrity or ethics.

It could be that you changed your views for a greater good. It could be that your views were changed because you saw things from a different perspective.

A STAR(R) format will be the best way to approach this type of question.

I think this is a good place to bring in working in groups and instances where you have had to compromise in order to propel the vision and aims of the group forward. As @Jessica Booker said bringing in STAR and walking your interviewer through your change in perspective about your views and why you felt you needed to soften/compromise on them will be beneficial.

Hi, I don't necessarily have an answer to this question, but I was asked this question in a recent interview. I didn't have an example, so I said something along the lines of "I haven't personally been in this situation, but if I were, I know I would act with transparency, honesty, integrity etc. Even though a view/value was compromised, I always make sure to uphold my own views, as well as the values of the organisation/team I'm working at/in, since this is something I firmly believe in". Not a perfect answer, but it worked :)
