For volunteer work like this should we not put it in the work experience section?
It sounds like the individual is only in training and not actually working yet.

It is one of those things once you are working that you could include in either a work experience or extra curricular section though.

I'm a bit lost on Fieldfisher's application.

Firstly - Please provide us with more details of your achievements, scholarships, positions of responsibility, insight schemes, open days and virtual work experience opportunities, extra-curricular activities and everything else that interests you. (400 words). I'm really confused as to what to include here. Technically my job is a 'position of responsibility' because it's supervisory/managerial, I have society positions I've held, do you think they would want to hear about this or should I put more about my personal interests?

Secondly, I am really struggling with "What do you understand to be the biggest opportunity for one of our key sectors and how the firm should pursue this. (500 words)" because I'm applying to their Manchester office which has different sectors/specialisms to their London office, for example. Do you think it's okay to talk about other sectors they cover in a different office?

Anyone that has already done the application, I would really appreciate your insights! :)

Yes and an offer :)
Huge congrats! That is some achievement, well done. You must be delighted.
How long did it take you to hear back from them with an offer post AC? Do they generally make offers after all of the assessment centres have taken place, or do they make offers on a rolling basis?

Disclaimer: I’m a learner and I’m no pro but I’ve gotten through to AC’s. First time applying to Fieldfisher though 😭

I go to uni of Bristol and I achieved the Bristol plus award. For the first one, I explained that. Then,I’m an advocacy volunteer at the Bristol Law Centre, I explained winning my first virtual court hearing. Obviously linked it back to how it’ll be valuable to the firm. I also talked about being mentored by a solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, the conferences/insight schemes ive attended, and the virtual work experiences ive done.

For the second one, I’m interested in energy law and I just discussed two trends in the energy sector, how Fieldfisher can practically assist their clients hopping on the trends, and what my input as a trainee on the transactions will be.

I honestly don’t know much about this ridiculous process. I don’t even know if I’ll make it past app/test stage. Just did my test today. So take my advise with a pinch of salt. ☹️😭

For the first question I’d stick to extra curriculars and any other interests you have since you can cover your managerial position in the work experience section. The application stage is really about trying to provide the firm with a well rounded picture of you and including information you haven’t covered elsewhere is generally a good approach I think.

For the second question, I don’t think you need to constrain yourself to the office you’re applying to. The question is really just looking to test your commercial awareness + firm awareness, so I’d suggest writing about something you’re really interested in and can discuss in depth. You can still discuss the Manchester office by maybe including how they would benefit from the opportunity :)

Hey just wanted to say I thought this was great advice! Honestly this forum is all about having everyone pitch in no matter where they’re at in the process. The range of thoughts and opinions helps so much so please don’t ever doubt the advice you put out, I promise you almost everyone will always find it helpful! ☺️

I wouldn’t include work in there. That will be on your work experience section, so I wouldn’t repeat it. PoR is mainly things outside of your day job - things you have taken up, not contracted to do.

I would focus your answer on the elements of the office you are applying to.
