While I haven't had any experience with bad message from people, as the community grows, I think it could be good to create a reporting system which would require you to also post evidence of the thing you are reporting. You could have had 3 strikes before being banned as I am a bit worried...
I guess as you have moderators anyway, you could potentially have them "flag" the posts which seem to be only for the sake of getting TCLA rewards. I know what you mean with TCLA wanting to steer away from manual intervention though, but it may be necessary as the community grows
Such a great idea!
Ideas for Factors to consider
How many times people found the given thread useful - i think there's difference between liking something and actually finding it useful (which suggests it helps you in development, career etc.)
You could also see how often the member has...
I agree that showing how it would impact either the firm or its clients in some way would make your answer much more comprehensive and relevant. However, when thinking about this, you can think outside the box - if you talk about societal problems, you can link it to some of the firm's pro bono...
That is an interesting question I have not come across yet.
I agree with Jessica, but guess this may be subjective.
Unless there is something that you studied in contract or seen in commercial news where you thought “this is not right”, I would recommend picking something that you are...
Further on the regulation of big tech, I think it may be useful to know about the issues of taxing big global on-line retailers like Amazon (just in general). I got asked about it in my most recent interview and while they didnt expect me to know much about it (and I knew nothing) it would be...
Hi Maria, similarly to NicN, I also created an excel spreadsheet that I kept updating throughout the cycle. In my spreadsheet I listed:
the firm's name
percentage of trainees recruited from VS
opening time
closing time
rolling/non-rolling
steps in the application (e.g. application, on-line...
I recommend watching A&O Anatomy of Deal which helps to understand where the things mentioned in Jake Schogger's book fit in practice.
In general, I think Jaysen's courses on TCLA (especially the one on M&A) are extremely useful and helped me a lot when I was trying to understand what...
Shearman & Sterling Whiteboard Wednesday videos are excellent in explaining how law firms work as a business (https://ukgraduates.shearman.com/videos-overview/whiteboard-wednesday-videos/). There is also a chapter about how professional services firms work in Chris Stoake's Commercial Awareness...
Such a good idea to set this up! I am not yet going to do my LPC, but I am starting LLM in London in September and while they say that there will be in-person teaching, they also offer online Term 1 for people who are reluctant/cant come to London. While I want to do the LLM partly to get to...
I usually just go with the moment and see, but if I don't have anything to ask, just do what others say - why they like the firm? what makes it different? etc. You can also ask how working from home has been for them and how they think it will impact the law firm / legal industry in the future -...
If you end up funding your GDL, just a little tip - some law firms reimburse you for GDL/LPC if you have done it prior to receiving the offer so worth checking if this is something that is important to you :)
I absolutely agree with what was already said. While you should not memorise answers word by word, having a bank of answers prepared gives you confidence and it means that there will be fewer questions that could throw you off. Also, it makes you think about all the different questions that...
I would not overthink it, they will ask if they don't understand. In my year before IB, I did something called "Pre-IB" which was a very unusual program in the way it was structured but I just provided my grades for the year and never got asked about it (and was invited to 3 interviews). So I...
