If you need to take a break then you absolutely should- I did. Your mental health takes priority. Taking a break will also let you come back fresh so you can properly focus on your applications and GDL. It’s a really tough process but you’ll get there.
I can’t remember exactly how long it took me but I think it was around 30 minutes. Definitely less than an hour.
And re preparing for the WG, do as many practice tests as you can
Firms would have no problem with you taking a year out to work. Any work experience is great, law or non law related. What’s most important is how you talk about your experiences in your applications and interviews.
Re self-funding the GDL/ applying for scholarships there’s no right or wrong...
Congrats on your vac scheme!
I completely agree with what @Alice G has said above
The point about being personable is really important. On a vac scheme they’re also looking to see if you fit into their culture and ultimately if they would like to work with you. Try to avoid being robotic and...
Unless they have changed it this cycle Weil only sends out the WG after they have reviewed your application so it can take a little while. It took me three weeks to receive mine, although I submitted my app over the holiday period which can take longer.
I completely agree with Jess and Alice. I applied to a firm last cycle and was rejected after video interview. I reapplied this cycle after updating my application and answered ‘yes’ to the ‘have you applied to us before’ question and got through to the next rounds of assessment just fine.
You’re only sent the WG once your app has been reviewed. I sent my application on 31st Dec and received my WG invite on 24th Jan so it took just over three weeks. Note that I submitted over the holiday period though so it may have taken a bit longer than usual!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re in this position @RubySmithers , it’s so tough to not get the results you’ve been aiming for after working really hard.
I did the GDL last year at BPP and I agree with what’s been said above. The best way to improve exam technique is to do as many past exam papers...
I used these books while doing the GDL last year and found them very helpful, particularly the core guide. It was primarily useful for checking I had the key points and correct structure for each topic.

Initially I did an internship abroad for three months. When I got back to the UK I did doc review temp work via DA Solutions until the lockdown
I was in the same position as you last year so I know how you’re feeling. I finished my GDL in Sept, second cycle in with no TC or VS. I was at a loss- I didn’t know what more I could do. However, I went on to have my most successful cycle, scoring 2 vacation schemes and eventually a TC offer at...
W&C are starting their postponed spring vac scheme next week so they’re probably waiting to finish that before going any further with direct TC applications
I really like the credits per rating system as @Mohammed has suggested. I think that’s a good way of allocating credits as it’s essentially the users themselves awarding the most useful content. I also agree with @Alice’s suggestion re saving up credits to ‘cash in’ rather than being limited by...
I have a number of successful and unsuccessful applications that I am happy to send over.
Very happy for the reward to be transferred to someone else too!
It took me three cycles to get my vacation schemes and TC offer so I completely understand the sting of rejection, particularly after you’ve done a vacation scheme and got to know the firm.
In terms of dealing with the rejection, I completely agree with what everyone else has said. Take a break...
