    2020-21 Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion

Heya, I used topscore for my interview, it's pretty straightforward, not sure what a DWF AC includes but for mine, there was a schedule and at the time of your interview/ written exercise, you click on the scheduled event and it takes you to the relevant page.

I second this with both AS and SEO- they both invest so much time and energy into the members and I think the advice they give you is so applicable for all firms not just their sponsor firms.

In relation to the first question, I don't think that would be an issue as the fact you've applied for a direct TC shows you're clearly enthusiastic about the firm and the fact you have a VS shows you're a competitive candidate. Regarding the second point, as unfortunate as it is the firms...

I don't think the firm would mind but my friend recommended I do so because people on Linkedin who also were going to do her scheme messaged her off that post so she said it allowed her to network with fellow VS participants before the scheme, just a thought it's deffo not necessary!

No I don't think they specify VS Scheme though it would definitely be a bonus! I would say though that TC recruitment rates vary from firm to firm so it would probably be best to talk to GR about this before you apply!

So as a general rule law firms would only suggest applying for their TC if you have had commercial experience (i.e. done VS schemes before). I've had firms tell me they prefer about 4 weeks of experience. As a graduate, I have always applied for VS as the firms I prefer tend to recruit mostly...

Hiya, I can't say specifically for W&C but I had a CV blind interview for Weil and at the beginning of the interview they asked I didn't mention the name of my uni to avoid unconscious bias but other than that there was nothing else.

I've done my LPC and I asked this and they said it won't impact your app because the SQE is only for new applicants- it's like the way firms say they don't really care what electives you take for the LPC if you've already completed it but if they sponsor you, they choose your electives.

So I had to change my AC also, I called GR and on the call they mentioned I could change it on the portal and did it for me so I think you can just change it but if you're worried you could always call GR and let them know (shouldn't be an issue as there are still other slots available)!

I would call them in this case if they're not responding to emails, it's normally easier to sort things out on the phone rather than by email and quicker

I actually haven't done the VS yet so can let you know afterwards! I think for me I was thinking everyone would be in the same position (learning something new) but you do make a good point! Hopefully, the firm will give you enough background to not feel lost, I think pick what you think you'll...

Do you have any particular options you're deciding between? I struggled as well but I picked the seat I will learn the least about from my studies- for example, I did debt finance on the LPC so I chose private equity over banking and finance as I wanted to learn more about the former

That being said, I only mentioned it when they asked- I mentioned my VS confirmed my interest in commercial law- they then asked about it more and the outcome of my VS- I didn't really mention out of the blue that I have another VS

    2020-21 Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion

I don't think it's a bad thing because firms know you realistically are applying to other firms and also the fact you have managed to gain a VS at another firm says that you clearly are a candidate that is sought after- I think the only drawback is if the firm is completely different to the firm...

I think someone on the forum said they were in the same situation and when they emailed GR they said they've had so many apps and are currently still going through them all.

So by using leverage a PE firm can spread the equity they have into multiple investments. For example, instead of investing in one company for 100m and realising 300m in profit, the firm can use 25m of equity plus 75m of debt and spread their 100m and invest in 4 companies. This means that their...

I obviously cannot speak for the firm but I think they may make an exception for this as LPC exam dates can't really be moved

Another option would be to ask to complete a summer scheme if this is for spring some firms may allow you to move to a different scheme, when I got offered my VS the firm asked me if I still wanted to do the spring scheme

I would also say that from attending open days at different law firms, they always say that while the Big 4 does provide legal services the level of complexity and specialisation needed for the largest cross-border transactions will means that clients do tend to prefer established law firms...
